Great clarity, tough material
So much better than the old OS map. Intelligent design, so that detail is clear. 1:12,500 map on one side is essential for the Ridge

Just the job for keeping the Grim Reaper at bay
I already had the OS 1:25,000 map of the Cuillin and Torridon hills, but this is much better. The bolder, more colourful mapping is much easier to read. The main part of this map covers an area from Broadford in the east to Glenbrittle in the west, Sligachan in the north and Loch Scavaig in the south. This itself is a great map, but what is printed on the other side makes it even more vaulable. Here we have an expanded (1:12,500) map of the whole of the Black Cuillin Ridge including a key to crag names/climbing areas. Also on this side is a simplified diagram showing the main ridge and its spurs and all of the possible escape routes, visitor and travel information including some useful phone numbers, a glossary of Gaelic names and the Scottish outdoor access code. Given the inhospitable terrain, the unpredictability of the mountain weather, and the tricks played on compasses by the magnetic rock in the Cuillin, it would be daft to venture up there without the best map you can find. Hence the title of this review. By the way, I've never seen any of these Harvey maps cheaper than here on Amazon.

The benchmark Cuillin Ridge map
This map beats the OS map of the area hands down. Very clear and the enlarged map of the ridge which is included is ideal for those like me who need glasses for reading small print and detail. Recommended.

I'm glad I took this map.
It's a high quality map, and handy for people going into the Cuillin - but the cartographic style differs from the ubiquitous OS maps, so some features aren't quite as obvious at a glance. The style is probably better once you get used to it. I'm glad I took this map.

should've got the 1:50000
Does not offer more detail than a 1:50000, it's just larger. The cullin closeup is good though. The paper is super thin and while it's light (although the real weight is 69g, not 60g as the manufacturer claims) I can't see it lasting. Not sure what the waterproof thing is about, it's normal paper, it's not laminated.

This scale is so much easier to use in mountains ...
This scale is so much easier to use in mountains than the OS 1:25000 we used to use. Very flexible for a waterproof map
