The Lies I Tell: A Novel

For me this book was a little let down after loving The Last Flight so much. It is definitely an intriguing story and has some very important messages about abuse of power, abuse of women and has some very clever and strong women figuring it all out. The problem for me was that, because of all the cons, you just really didn't get to know the characters really well. For literally the first half of the book, I didn't really connect with Meg because all we were really shown was her justified grudge against the man who stole her home as a child and how that drove her to the life of a con artist. The truth is so much more than that though, which is what makes the book so interesting. I just really think it would have benefited the reader's connection to the characters if we were shown a little more of that earlier on. I literally considered stopping at about the half way mark because revenge stories just really don't hold much interest for me. It turns out the theme is much bigger- and more uplifting than that. So, even with my doubts, I'd still recommend it as an interesting and deviously delightful story.

Most important attributes of a con artist according to one female with many names are patience and trust. For Meg, the long game has been to avenge her mother’s losses, loss of family inheritance, loss of family, loss of dignity, and loss of hope. Meg’s memories of her mother’s dying months compel her even as she struggles to maintain a life living in a car, ever moving, ever avoiding tickets, targets, and dangers.But what has sustained Meg has been her ability to observe, study, and learn habits, routines, behaviors, and relationships. And Meg becomes very aware of male predators, crooks, cheaters, and liars. And slowly, methodically, Meg trains one after another always rendering a justice, always preparing for her ultimate con.And unbeknownst to Meg, Kat a reporter has been on her heels, waiting to capture her, her story, her cons, and her identity.

My second Julie Clark book, The Lies I Tell. My first was The Last Flight which was awesome; thanks to Amazon free read for introducing me.This writer is amazing, I love how Ms Clark writes, like you know these people and become immersed in their lives. So many writers try this, some succeed and some come close. Well done Ms Clark. I’m now a huge fan for life, please hurry and write more!!

I didn’t know I could love a con artist this much. Meg and Kat feel so real. Julie Clark intertwines their lives in the most interesting ways and I just love all of the clever cons that Meg orchestrates. Though it isn’t really believable, it’s very enjoyable and I highly recommend this book.

The story revolves around a con artist who seeks justice in her own way. The author has a vivid imagination and keeps you entertained in a great way. I appreciated a clean story with minimal cussing too. I can't wait to read her next novel!

This book deserves more than a 5 rating . I read Last Flight and was glad to see this on my book list. This author keeps you in suspense all thru' the book. So well written and just plain GOOD!

The cat and mouse game was fun- even better as more details unfold about each woman.What a fun film this would be...

About 3/4 of the way through this book I slowed down because I didn’t want the story to end. The main characters are 2 strong women on different sides of a situation and by the end I was pulling for both. Unique story with a very satisfying ending! I’ll read anything Julie writes.

I was very excited to read this book after "inhaling" THE FLIGHT last year, therefore my expectations were very high. I was not disappointed. The story develops slowly but with steady progress and keeps you guessing until the end. Definitely a must-read.

I liked the characters a lot. While having no idea whether cons like the ones described could really be pulled off - but then, we are talking fiction...The one important message that stayed with me: women should work together not fight each other.
