These are excellent socks. They are light-weight but not too thin and they are very comfortable. I wear a size 9.5 in women's shoes and chose size L (size M fits women's sizes 5 1/2 - 9 and size L fits 10 -13) so I just wanted to be sure they wouldn't be too snug. They actually fit just fine and are not too long at all. In fact, have a good bit of elasticity so I'm pretty sure a size M would have worked, too. I chose the black version and the socks I received are ankle-length, not crew-length, which is what I was hoping for, judging from the pictures. They are only lightly cushioned but the toe and heel areas are strongly reinforced and there is good arch support. The band is snug, but not binding and the socks stay in place. The fabric is a wool/nylon/spandex blend, as described and feels like very good quality. I love wool socks (& just about everything else) and wear merino socks for all but the hottest days of summer. I get cold easily and wearing merino socks keeps me feeling toasty warm when it is chilly indoors or out, but I don't feel uncomfortably warm on nicer days. I don't know about hiking, but these will be great for my daily walks and I've been wearing them with my athletic shoes as well as casual shoes. They launder well and feel very durable. I've had them for several weeks and they have been washed a few times and still look and feel new. The current price of $16.56 does seem a bit high initially, but the fabric and construction is top-notch, and it is a plus that they are made in the USA.

I have these socks in size medium, which fit men’s 4-8 and women’s 5.5-9 according to the size chart. I wear a men’s size 7 shoe, the socks fit well. They are very stretchy.The socks don’t shrink. I’ve already worn and washed and dried them at least 7 or 8 times and they look new.I have the Dark Purple color option, they are crew sock height. They come up over my calf, about 8 inches above my ankle. I like this height, it’s great for my 8 inch high workboots. Unfortunately, the socks don’t always stay up my legs, I do have to tug them up at least a few times a day.The socks have light padding in the toe and heel. I don’t really notice the padding when I’m on my feet all day long. On the plus side, the socks wick away sweat and keep my feet dry during long days. But the toe seam is annoying, I feel it poking against my pinky toe and the side of my boot.
