Brilliant 'gadget' torch
So totally over the top for what I personally end up using it mostly for... (I'm certainly not a 'Navy Seal', definitely don't go on any SAS missions and absolutely don't have it attached to the barrel of any form of bullet-based weapon, like they do in the movies)... but when you need a torch for finding your seat in a dark theatre and don't want to annoy / blind anyone in the process, this torch - with it's 'dimmable' output - is perfect! It's small, has a good battery life, an exceptionally bright beam (at full power) and all of it's functions are easy to use. It also feels like it'll last forever.Recommended.

Good torch BUT......
Well made, really powerful for its’ size, BUT compromised as a standby torch by the fact that it drains batteries even if it isn’t being used. Drained batteries leak, and corrode the innards, damaging the battery carrier.

Quality Maglite torch
This Maglite XL200 is a gem of a torch. Now I do have a very large collection of flash lights, yet this particular torch is the one I use and like most. Most XL200 come in blisterpack, however this offering comes in a Maglite XL 200 presentation box, thus making for an ideal Father's day gift.It is tiny, measuring 12cm in length and 2.5cm in diameter, yet packs in some punch. It produces 172 lumen, which, on paper might not seem much when compared to the specifications of Chinese torches. Yet Maglite do not just invent or exaggerate these numbers as many others do. In fact I have compared this torch to a rated 1500 lumen Chinese torch, and the Maglite simply trumps it.The XL200 uses a sturdy battery carrier, and is powered by three AAA batteries. The torch will not work if the carriage is inserted the wrong way round, and no damage is done to the torch itself. I generally use rechargeable Eneloop batteries. The entire light is type-II anodized aluminium inside and out. The anodizing prevents corrosion, and also electrically insulates the light. On the tail cap is an electronic switch covered with grey rubber with markings for each mode and contains an accelerometer for adjustable brightness and strobe.Gadget geeks will simply love the the various functions accessible through clicking modes:Clicks : (Quick Clicks bar the first)1 - Turns the light on. If held whilst turning on, rotation left or right will vary the intensity of the beam. This is kept in memory.2 - Strobe. If button is held on 2nd click than rotation will vary the strobe light frequency3 - ZZzz. (Nite lite) The torch will go to minimum brightness and back to max when torch is moved4 - Signal. This comes in handy to use torch as morse code. Rotating the torch by around 20 degrees will light up the bulb5 - SOS. This will emit 3 short flashes followed by 3 longer ones and back to 3 short. (international distress morse code signal)There is another function which is called "lockout". This will disable the light from accidental pushes on the switch, and is ideal for travelling or if you do not want the kids to play around with the torch :)To achieve this : From the off position, point the light upwards, press the switch (torch will light up) and while still pressing point the light downwards. On releasing the switch the light will turn off and the torch is locked. Reverse the procedure to re activate the torch.I simply love this amazing, precision crafted torch!!Hope you found this review helpful :)
