Extremely unstable
The OS provided by orange pi is terrible. Constant kernel panics when running simple python for loops, using armbian resolves this, but it shouldn't be necessary to use a different OS than the one the instructions tell us to use. Furthermore, booting is extremely unstable, sometimes it boots, sometimes it doesn't boot for a week. Save yourself the hassle and pay the premium for a Raspberry Pi instead.

Orange Pi 4 LTS - Quick arrival, easy setup
I'm just starting to use the Orange Pi 4 LTS, which arrived in two weeks rather than the 4-8 weeks suggested. It was easy to see what the single heatsink needed to go on once the rockchip cpu started getting hot. The case lid doesn't fit snugly if the heat sink is affixed, but it can be secured with the provided screws. I'm not sure what the clay pieces are for.The initial setup was seamless - I just plugged in the basic logitech mouse/keyboard combo and the basic sceptre curved screen monitor, powered the board, and the preinstalled android software started right up. Connecting to internet via ethernet cable to my DSL router/modem worked perfectly, as did later wifi connection to the same router/modem.I was able to install both armbian and debian successfully via SD card, but haven't yet tried to burn to the EMMC or add the additional mqtt or node red software for iot applications.

Great NAS/Media Server board
I bought this to offload the file storage and Plex Media Server that were running on my desktop PC. After installing Armbian Linux to the eMMC, I installed OpenMediaVault, a Docker image with Plex, and I was up and running. My daughter has been streaming movies and TV shows via Plex for two weeks now without any problems, aside from a few initial setup goofs on my part. All in all, I highly recommend this board for home media server purposes, and the RK3399 chipset is also highly capable for other things such as emulation.

a challenge to get past the initial android boot
Linux software included on their webpage cannot be used because the Android systems installed will not allow it to boot from micro sd image, instead it default boots into Android installed on the eMMC. EDIT*** ( after trying many of the OS's they have on there website I found one that works, it's the Debian Buster xfce, first you have to load into the android mode then insert the microsd hold the reset for 5 seconds and it should boot into debian from microsd)*****(re-edit) ***** The Debian Buster Build turned out not to be stable, I have searched high and low, there is no linux support for this SBC AVOID!!!!

I came here to help with the dough
It’s a pi4 before the OP5 what else to say. Ships from over sea. Nicely packaged for the journeyHad some shutdown issues due to heat, left it alone for a few days and I assume the putty expanded or something. Appears ok now.
