Tom Horn - Steve McQueen [DVD]

This is a bit of a disappointment if truth be told but I sort of enjoyed it. The story is a bit disjointed though and sometimes you are not sure where you are with it. However, collectors of westerns like me will enjoy it as the atmosphere and the scenery is well worth seeing. Unfortunately though the story gets lost a little along the way. Not a patch on Nevada Smith, McQueen's best western.

McQueen in my view gives one of his best performances in this film as the legendary character Tom Horn. He was a success in a time where his values fit in, but as time marches on, Horn cannot change and his violent methods rebound on him. You feel a sense of inevitability throughout the film as it draws to it's conclusion. This mirrors McQueen's own inevitable demise in the same year this film was released.The action sequences feel real. The supporting characters are well drawn and the scenery is superb, although the desolateness of the landscape adds to the feeling of impending doom. I have a small collection of westerns that from time to time I will dip into and this is a welcome addition. Recommended viewing for McQueen fans, Western fans and as a slice of (only partially altered) history. Or just a good yarn. It works on a lot of levels and can truly be called a classic.

I have always been a Steve McQueen fan and have most of his film's, Im not sure why it took me so long to have this film. So I finally got it but even though I like true stories, I found this one was lacking something, as though it needed a bit longer to get to know the character's a bit better. Sad story and played well by McQueen. This was a dutch presentation but you can follow the instruction's to play english.

A true story of the changing times in the west, although many men were finding it hard to understand the new laws and how to abide properly to them. This was the dillemma faced by Tom horn when he took the job of law man for the county's cattle men's association. It all ends badly for this western old timer.

Solid slow paced western drama.Plays in uk in english from the off.Very good picture for dvd.Worthy to add to your western collection or if your a Mcqueen fan..

Sadly mcqueens final film he gave a good performance considering he was unwell at the time and in pain recommend for mcQueen fans.

Classic movie from one of the all time greats.Steve McQueen. Who never lost it as he got older.
