The character Kaname Madoka is adorable.
The beginning is amazing eye candy, the middle is darker and gritty and the end mesmerising. You have to watch the series or prequels first though otherwise you may be left wondering what just happened. I unapoligeticaly enjoyed madoka magica series and would recommend to any anime fan. This movie is the icing on the cake. Update All thee movies are having a blu ray release in the UK. I could have waited and payed £25 instead of paying £50. Doh!

Continues to be A Fantastic Watch!
NOTE: WARNING! This review contains spoilers for the TV series and the first two movies, please do not read unless you have watched either one. The Madoka Magica series, and movies, are things that are really unique when you compare this to other magical girl animes and other deconstruction series. This is something that does definitely standout, which is probably one reason to its popularity and success. The main question is, is this movie as good as the series?STORYI won't bother giving a summery of the story as it would spoil the movie in some respects. The beginning of this movie will send you through a loop if you haven't looked this film up before hand. This is supposed to be set after the events of the series, but has a few differences that in some respects doesn't make any sense. Such as; Madoka is still a magical girl and not a goddess, Sayaka is back and not dead, and Homura Akemi is a shy and timid girl instead of being a cool, cold hearted, straight to the point like character. I bet you have one question? What is going on? Well, you won't find out until about the half way point in the film. The story is well paced and is one of the few films that doesn't feel like it drags on or is rushed; it just feels like everything is laid out well and is interesting as soon it starts. Everything is just well timed and paced that you don't get the feeling of it dragging or being rushed, even though it is close to being two hours long.CHARACTERSTo be honest there is no difference in the characters by the end of the film. They don't really develop from where the series, and first two movies, end and Rebellion begins. Even by the end of the film there is no difference. The only character to get any character development is Homura Akemi; which is good enough for me. If you haven't read my review of the series then I might as well say that Homura Akemi is my favorite character, and I like it when a film focuses on my favorite characters. This movie just highlights why Homura Akemi is so awesome, and goes to the lengths of developing her character as much as possible. All of the development of her character is done extremely well, and nothing feels out of place. There really isn't much to say apart from Homura Akemi is the main focus of this film, and that is why the other characters don't develop that much. If you like her character then you can easily forgive that, but if you were hoping for more development from other characters then you might be a little bit disappointed.ANIMATION & SOUNDThe animation is what you'd expect from Madoka Magica, except on an even bigger scale. The animation is excellent and top notch, though the enemies are still animated poorly it's still good to see that even though the movie is on a bigger budget it's still consistent with the series. There are some scenes that are animated extremely well; such as a fight scene that happens half way through the film that is engaging, fun, and just plain awesome. The music is probably better than the series. There are a good number of themes from the series in this movie, but they are just done so well and so much better that you just have to prefer the movie versions. The soundtrack is still composed by Yuki Kajiura (Sword Art Online), and there are times when the music sounds like tracks from others things she's done. The soundtrack is pretty good. I watched both the series, and the first two movies, with an English dub, so this was my first time watching this in Japanese. While I did like the voices, and they were done quite well, there were times when I found them to be a little high pitched. Which is why I like the dub, because there are times when they aren't as high pitched. But I was still moved by the performances, and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I just wish that either Aniplex of America or Warner Bros. would hurry up and dub this movie, because at the end there is a lot of information to take in and having a dub would be better than reading subtitles.OVERALLThis is a very good movie, and it continues the series well. All because this is a movie it doesn't stray too far away from what it is based on, and merely feels like an extension of the series. This is a fantastic and extremely enjoyable movie that can be watched over and over again. Like the series I can easily give this a recommendation to buy once there is a copy available that is to you're liking. I just hope Manga Entertainment gets a licence for the Madoka movies to be released soon, and hopefully a dub is made for this movie soon.
