Enchanted Afternoon
Helena Cabot is admired in Saratoga Springs as the wife of Senator Troy Barnes, and a daughter of a powerful political family in Georgetown. Her life seems idyllic, filled with charity luncheons and spending time with her son William. However, after the death of her father, Troy realizes the power he has and physically abuses Helena, who contacts her old lover Michael Rowan, as he is the only person she can think of that can help her. She starts a new life helping women like herself at Moon Lake Lodge, but she knows that Troy won't give her up easily. She also has to get to know Michael again and see if there is anything left to rekindle between them. This book was an ok read, but lacked many plot twists and turns; even the climax of the novel was fairly predictable. I started off really liking this series, but the past two with the Cabot sisters have been a little uninteresting. There were still some enjoyable parts to this one, the friendship and teamwork among the women at the Lodge in the face of tragedy being a notable one, as are the moments between William and Michael. The last novel in the Calhoun Chronicles featuring the spirited Isabel Fish-Wooten looks to be an interesting one, as her character seems like someone to get to know better.

Highly Recommend this Novel. Much more than the usual romance story!
I was totally absorbed by this historical romance by Susan Wiggs. The book has a lot of substance and character development. More than the usual romance. Some of the topics, such as abuse, are hard to read, but Susan Wiggs does a great job putting the story together as a package. I have read a few novels by this author so far and plan tor read more!

Enchanted Afternoon a good read
An interesting series. I enjoyed them all. Not sure now which book was which, but they were all good. The only thing I didn't like was the graphic sex descriptions. It would have been just as good if everything wasn't described. That is offensive, but I liked the characters too much to quit reading.

I LOVED THIS BOOK
As always with this author's books, the minute I get it, I sit down and read it until it's finished. I was up til 2:30am just so I could finish it. She has excellent character development - they are real people, she has excellent storyline development. I was captured from the very first page. What a great author.

lost and found
I had a slow start on this book. It seems to be a pattern on the Calhoun Chronicles books. It was a good read eventually and I liked it through to the end. It helped that I had read the first Chronicle.

Yet another triumph in the Calhoun Chronicles
I have cone to Susan Wiggs late after a recommendation in another another author's Facebook page. I have been utterly enthralled by the story of the Calhoun family and friends. Although there are some negative reviews for this book on Goodreads I am relieved I took no notice. This story deals with a number of sensitive issues: domestic violence, dreadful decisions made when young regretted later, the importance of good father role models. All seamlessly woven into a beautiful tale of enduring love. I loved it

Historical Romance
One of the most iconic and amazing historical romances I've ever read and so insightful into how women were seen years ago when in abusive marriages very heart warming to when the main character gets saved by the man she loves.

An old one from the back list.
One of her period novels written in her earlier style. It was highly readable, but I much prefer her most recent work.
