Four months of use, I think it actually works
I got this pen primarily because I’ve read that micro-needling can help with hair loss on the scalp. There’s a lot of smaller studies out there that show good results, plus a lot of anecdotal stuff, enough for me to decide to give it a shot. Also, I have mild rosacea on one cheek and thought let’s get it a try there too.You can read reviews on how to use it in other reviews, but to sum it up: it’s easy, intuitive, flexible, and convenient. I use it on the fastest setting because I’ve heard that hurts less.So I’ve been using this on my scalp since October at 1.5mm depth. I do 6 small circles all over my scalp, and then in lines back and forth. I probably get 10-15 “hits” all over my entire scalp each session. I do it once a week. You can see the before (September) and after photos (January). While I wouldn’t say the change is miraculous, I do believe there is real change. I have been taking photos combed and uncombed, in the same spot with the same light in my bathroom and you can see changes consistently over time.I almost don’t want to believe it and get my hopes up falsely, but even my wife says she notices a change.I should add that during this time I’ve also been using minoxidil and finasteride/dutasteride. I’ve used these other products for years and have never noticed any real improvement. I assume they’ve maybe slowed the decline, but it’s always been a decline. I’ve read that the combo of micro-needling and minoxidil is the key. Also, it hurts. Not going to sugar coat it. I bought the strongest lidocaine I could find on Amazon and slather that stuff on like BBQ sauce but it still hurts, especially right at the hairline. And maybe 3-4 days after a session my scalp will start flaking. And it gets bad - like winter time in Siberia. Flaking lasts maybe 3-4 days, but by then I do my next session, which seems to stop the flaking until the middle of the next week. After each session I basically soak the needles overnight in isopropyl alcohol to disinfect. This lets me reuse them a few times and I haven’t had to get any more needles yet.The rosacea, however, has not had any noticeable improvement over the same time frame. I guess we can’t win them all.So if you’re struggling with hair loss, I think this is worth a try. If you can put up with the pain and the flaking and stick with it consistently over time, I do believe you’ll see improvement. (Oh and get you some minoxidil- online it’s basically cheaper than water.) I considered other options like a derma-stamp and roller, but I chose to invest a bit more money on this for the precise control and ability to replace the needles.Good luck.
