A thrilling rollercoaster ride
Harlan Coben is one of those authors who never lets you down. You can always count on him to deliver a page-turner of a book. ‘I Will Find You‘ is no different. It’s the perfect escapism and I absolutely tore through this.True to form, Coben delivers another tale of an ordinary person finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances. Five years ago, David’s son was found murdered in his bed, beaten to a pulp with a baseball bat. Every shred of evidence of this brutal murder points to David, and he is put behind bars. But now, his former sister-in-law, Rachel, visits him and shows him a photograph with a boy in the background who looks remarkably like David’s son. Is Matthew still alive? The only way David can find out the truth is to escape prison, so he can save his son and clear his name. However, there are some who would prefer the truth about that devastating night remains hidden. But are Rachel’s motives what they seem to be? She too has lost a lot. Once a promising investigative reporter, she went a few steps too far and ruined her career in the process. Is she using this moment as an opportunity to revive her career, or does she genuinely believe Matthew is still out there somewhere?Far-fetched? Somewhat. Over the top? Maybe. Requires suspension of disbelief? Totally. Did I care? Not one jot! I often do mind, but Harlan Coben is one of very few authors who can get away with all of that. Maybe that’s because his characters are always so complex and multi-layered. But also, in a lot of cases, entirely relatable. It’s remarkably easy to imagine being in David’s position, stuck behind bars for something he knows he didn’t do. Yet not finding a morsel of fighting spirit because nothing will change the fact that his son is dead, and without his little boy life doesn’t matter anymore. That little sliver of hope in the shape of the photograph he is shown fires him up entirely, just like with any other parent. On the other side of the spectrum are those with money. Lots of money. Too much money? You know, the ones who barely know what to do with it. The ones who seem to think having money means you can get away with anything. The ones who use money to cover up things they shouldn’t be covering up. Uh huh, yeah, those ones.Obviously, as the reader, you’re rooting for David all the way. ‘I Will Find You‘ is so action-packed it almost feels as if you’re right there with David, in the thick of things, fighting for justice. There didn’t seem to be any moment where you could just catch your breath for a minute. It’s all systems go from start to finish and I loved every minute of it. A thrilling and twisty rollercoaster ride, massively addictive and I might even go as far as to say I think this might just be Harlan Coben’s best book to date. I can’t wait for his next one!

Formulaic but rather basic
Harlan Coven always delivers stories where the past comes back to affect the present and serves a plot with several twists. This story mostly follows that winning formula but at the same time was rather basic. The plot was fast and well told and was enjoyable but didn't really have a lot of suspense or intrigue. The prison break was implausible as was the prisoner being assigned to the jail run by his godfather. It's still a good read for die hard Coben fans.

Good read
The first 3 chapters really reeled me in. Slightly disappointed in the end the way it all worked out slightly far fetched.

My favourite author goes too far....
I am a long-term fan of Harlan Coben’s writing. Long before he became a super-star author, I loved his books.I resisted buying this one because I found the central subject – the murder of a son by his father – distressing. However, in a moment of impulse I bought it and worked through the initial horror. On the positive side, it was a relief to return to Coben’s relaxed, almost conversational, style of writing. He has a knack of flowing through prose and dialogue. He doesn’t worry about sentence construction or strict grammar – he just says it. This makes his books very readable. I was not aware of hackneyed cliches or dodgy similes, which are always annoying and distracting.I can’t fault the uniqueness of the plot. It was complex….. actually too complex. Whilst I strongly believe that fiction should be just that – fiction, and those who constantly complain too much about plots being far-fetched should stick to non-fiction if they want realism, I nevertheless feel that this one went a bit too far beyond believability. I found it increasingly hard to cope with the convoluted explanations and revelations, most of which just couldn’t and wouldn’t happen. Coben fell back heavily on the notion that a super-rich family has absolutely everyone in their pocket. It was a convenient way of trying to tie up loose ends.I often find myself wishing that popular authors would stop trying too hard to come up with something new. John Grisham, Steve Cavanagh etc. They became popular because their fans love the formula that sold all those books. I find myself longing for a bit of Myron Bolitar from Coben, or at least stand-alone plots that I can – at some level – relate to. He is usually so good at drawing characters and making you like – or at least understand – them. With I Will Find You, there was too much emphasis on plot and explanation, too little on the characters and motives of the main players. So – a lot of criticism from me. But (a big but) – I shot through this book quicker than any that I have read recently. For all its ridiculousness, it had me gripped. I just hope that the next Coben offering will combine the fantastic story-telling with an accessible plot and well-drawn characters. He can do that so well.

Brilliant Author
I have read hundreds of books over the past 20 years and I must say that I had never heard of this author until I purchased this book. it is absolutely excellent and a brilliant story so I have been searching for details of his other publications and I have just purchased 10 books on amazon for an excellent reduced price, and I have to say that I will not stop until I have read all his published books. If you have not read any I would recommend that you do so as soon as you can. I am sure that when the new ones I have ordered arrive today there will be no stopping me. EXCELLENT AUTHOR!!!!!!!!!
