Q: What would you put as a base for the cheesecake to sit on? Would it be those round cheesecake cards?

I guess it would work. Sit the rings on the cards and then build the cheesecake up in the ring. I usually just build them up on grease proof paper on a tray and then transfer. The cards would make things neater.

Q: can you bake fondant in them?

I wouldn't advise baking fondant icing in the first place. Won't it melt all over the place?? If it needs hardening up then a warm oven for 5 mins will help or a hair dryer. Or an oven with just the light on for 24hrs. Use Xanthan gum to harden the icing up and fondant moulds. They are more for keeping the shape of things - making perfect little cheesecakes, mousses, vegetable towers etc. They don''t have a bottom anyway so they need to go on something (plate / dish).

Q: Can you use these to bake cakes in?

They are loose tins with no bottom so liquid cake mix would run out. Lakeland do tins for individual sponge cakes that have loose bottoms.
