From the Manufacturer The inhabitants of the villages surrounding a dormant volcano were happily living in peace until - KABOOM. - the old volcano sprung back to life, unleashing rivers of molten lava in every direction and blasting volcanic rock into the sky. The villages, now faced with destruction, must do whatever they can to protect their homes from the incoming surge of lava. Your village is about to burn up - can you take the heat? Eruption is a competitive survival game in which each player struggles to save his or her own village from destruction caused by an onslaught of lava from an erupting volcano. As lava enters a village, its temperature increases until it has burned up completely. Players can protect their own villages by placing lava tiles defensively and strategically building walls of various materials to hold back the lava. They are also rewarded with action cards for directing lava to other villages. Action cards allow players to rotate, replace, or remove the hexagonal lava tiles as well as cool down and fortify their own villages. Once the volcano has fully unleashed its fury, the player whose village is at the lowest temperature wins.

Not great with 2 players. Just an OK game.
Two reasons why I don't give this 5 stars: 1. With 2 players, it's not very much fun. I haven't played it with more players yet, but I can see it needs at least 3 players. 2. The rules are scattered here & there in the rule book, and you have to search to find what you're looking for. Otherwise, it's not bad, but so far it seems like going first with 2 players is a big advantage. I recommend watching some videos on You Tube before buying Eruption.

right up there with Carcassone, Settlers, and Pandemic
To be honest, I had bought it as a gag-gift for my wife who is a vulcanologist, and since it says it is aimed at ages 10-14, I didn't have particularly high hopes for this game. Those hopes were dashed: it has turned out to be a pretty doggone fun game for the two of us! While perhaps not as challenging as some other games, it is certainly a game you have to think through. We rotate this one with some of our other favorites based on our mood.

fun game
Fun game for kids and adults and we have played this several times already as an entire family of 4. My sons ages 8 and 12 loved trying to burn each others cities up. The gameplay does a good job building tension as you get closer to the end making for a frantic finish. The game gives greater rewards to the players whose cities are burning up too fast (by chance or as result of a poor choice), so they can get back in the game and get revenge. This keeps the game close for all players and exciting. Its clear why this game was highly rated and the 2013 Games Magazine Family Game Runner up. Highly recommended.

Fun game for family and friends!
This game was a blast and what I love is that it is very social, whereas some games are very siloed, but this ones lets everyone talk to each other and have fun. Also, it plays up to 6 which is rare and it doesn't take any longer really for 6 people to play vs 3 or 4. I look forward to trying to play some of the modified versions such as teams.

Descent Game, not great
I like the game, but we've only played it once since we purchased it. It might be a little complicated at first for some people (younger kids). I'm sure we'll play it again, but isn't a top ten board game in our household

It's a roaring good time!
Quick, relatively simple, and a whole lot of fun! We've had a blast (ha! see what I did there?) playing it and so has everyone we've introduced it to, kids and adults alike. It's a "take that" kind of game, so young kids may get upset if they feel ganged up on, but that's part of the fun. Just don't forget that when an eruption tile is laid for each danger zone, everyone else goes up 30 degrees.
