Onomatopoeia Friends: Illustrated book of Japanese onomatopoeic characters

This book is filled with adorable characters and easy explanations to help you learn Japanese onomatopeia. The layout is simple and clean so it's easy to understand, and the 4-panel comics are so cute and funny! My mother and I are learning Japanese together and this book was a wonderful addition to our studies, we love it. Thank you, Tanaka-san!

My Japanese is about at an N2 level, and I learned lots of helpful things from this book. But, it’s good for all levels of Japanese learners, even beginners. Onomatopoeia aren’t focused on as much in textbooks, but Japanese speakers use them all the time, so it is nice to have this resource dedicated to the topic. I love Tanaka’s illustrations, and the characters she makes for each onomatopoeia in the book are so cute! The book is also quite funny.

I’ve been learning Japanese for a couple of years now and I stumbled upon Tanaka-san’s YouTube channel recently. I love their content and when I saw they had a book out I knew I had to get it. I have to say this book is genius! It’s cute, easy to understand, and I love that each onomatopoeia has a character to go with it. It’s soooo much easier to remember when I can picture a cute little animal or thing along side the words. I highly recommend this book, I’m learning so much from it so far and actually retaining the information in a fun way. 😊 I really hope they come out with more books because I will happily jump at the opportunity to read more from them!たなか先生、ありがとうございます！

I've been enjoying Tanaka-san's channel for a few months now and love how cute, funny, and accessible all of the lessons are. The book is wonderful and easy to digest even if I don't quite understand all of the vocabulary yet. Thank you for making this, Tanaka-san! It's lovely and I hope you make another book again someday.

The media could not be loaded.  I am a serious student of Japanese where my primary goal is to speak in a natural manner, onomatopoeias are very useful and common in Japanese, I use them on a daily basis. You can easily find a list online anywhere but with this little cute book you have a very intuitive way of using them and remembering them. I appreciate the amount of effort and work into this book.

I have a digital and physical copy and it’s 100% worth the money. The writing and illustrations make it easy to understand each word and how they’re used. This has also been helpful with practicing Hiragana because I can follow along with the characters.

I started learning Japanese because of my friends who speak it. I have been able to use these onomatopoeia with them instantly! I am a beginner(I only just learned to read and I know some words/phrases).I really like the layout and the basic sentences are so helpful. The Japanese is a nice beginner level for me so far.Tanaka san did a really lovely job in creating cute memorable characters and the comics are so fun to read.It's a lovely little approachable book for beginners. It's fun and you can learn some onomatopoeia for daily casual conversation. If you read it, the onomatopoeia will be べたべた in your head.Tanaka san, you did an amazing job. I look forward to your next book 🥰

This book was definitely made with a lot of creativity and love; one can feel it while reading it! Every page is a delight, from the character drawing to the small funny story giving a practical example of a situation where the onomatopoeia would typically come out ! Thank you Tanaka-san!
