Good Hub and Nightlight (bright!). Poor Matter support.
For acting as a Zigbee hub it works great. The nightlight is also very useful. The recent Matter integration, not so great. Adding this to Home Assistant via matter was a mixed bag. For the door sensors and temp/humidity sensors we have, it works great via Matter. The Aqara buttons we have though are gimped compared to installing them using the ZHA integration. Instead of 4 states to program with along with an offline state, you get 1 state to program with. I actually use 3 of the states and the offline state on those buttons, so they are back under ZHA now. If you are going to add Matter support Aqara....don't gimp the functionality of devices via home assistant integrations.I'd like to see better Matter integration and the ability to use the hub as a speaker. Ideally with TTS functionality. Also, in the Aqara app I can use the daytime sensor, but I can't use it in Home Assistant, that needs to be fixed. I would much rather have everything running through Home Assistant.

Constantly loses WiFi connection
The device constantly loses WiFi connection, usually two or three times a day. WiFi at the device location is strong. Unfortunately, It can’t be relied on to use as an alarm system.

Had to upgrade my older one to something new.
I have a lot of Aqara products inside my house. This is one company that knows there stuff about smart home technology. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to get into smart home technology

Capable device, but …
Good luck trying to figure out how to actually use it, at least with HomeKit. The documentation will tell you what it looks like and how to pair it, but that’s it. There’s no information on how to actually use the features of the device, either in the exceptionally brief documentation included, in the app, or on their website. In particular, the set up for a home security system is very obscure. I don’t think I would’ve ever figured about how to use this feature if not for Shane Watley‘s YouTube tutorials. I have to wonder if it is good practice to sell a sophisticated device and rely upon a YouTube channel (that you must find for yourself) to tell you how it works. In addition, plugging this thing into a standard two-receptacle wall plug blocks the second outlet. Their smart wallplug has the power prongs offset so that it doesn’t block the second outlet, so why couldn’t they do that with this device? All that said, the hub works fine after finding information on how to do things.

Improved WiFi Connection
I had the first generation of the M1S and experienced frequent network disconnects, especially when I swiped to a mesh network in the last few months. But with the improved WiFi radio in this Gen 2 the network connect has been rock solid.Where improvements still needed is in the app and setup process. Software developers should always have everyday, average people review the usability and simplicity of their apps before it’s released to the public.

Effective Alarm System with Minor Connectivity Hurdle
The Aqara Hub M1S Gen 2 has proven to be a reliable and effective addition to my smart home setup, particularly as an alarm system. Its robust sound output ensures that it serves its primary purpose well - alerting me promptly to any security breaches. One of the main reasons I opted for this specific model is its impressive volume output, which surpasses other offerings from Aqara. It provides a loud and clear alarm signal, which gives me peace of mind knowing that it will be heard when needed. However, I did encounter an issue with the hub's Wi-Fi connectivity, especially in relation to my mesh network setup. Initially, it struggled to maintain a stable connection, causing intermittent issues. Fortunately, after some troubleshooting, I found a workaround by temporarily deactivating the 5GHz band, allowing the hub to connect to the 2.4GHz network. Once I implemented this fix, the connectivity issues disappeared entirely.

Not reliable in time
After a few months, my hub has regularly some wifi network loss, and scenes start to fail.

Great security hub and light
I love the night light as I use it to automate the colour based on different states detected by the system, such as an open door or lock.

Almost there
Good hub overall. Only complaint is that the device makes a whining noise when the LED is turned on which can be annoying.
