Tadpoles
A**E
Quirky, captivating, honest book
I love this book! Its subject matter may not be easy for adults to categorize, because it’s working on different levels at the same time. Is it a “non-fiction” nature book about tadpoles and ponds and spring rain? Yes. Is it a “social-emotional” book about a boy adjusting to his father not living with him anymore? Yes again. It’s life seen through a child’s eyes, felt by a child’s heart, and so it’s a hodgepodge of impressions that all ring true. The same can be said for the illustrations. Every time I read this story I find myself immersed in a well-loved child’s world, experiencing it with him.
