Q: Does this fit a Vizio 43 inch tv

Yes a 43 fits, however depends were the stand will be place, I have a 32, in the kitchen and it was just at level eye, a bigger tv wouldn't have work for this area.

No, you do not need to install the shelf. The base is about an inch thick. It sits about a half inch from the floor once set up.

we place ours on tile, however it's very strong, stable, do recommended. I would buy it again
