Carnal Depictions by Latin American Women
An overwhelming collection of artwork by women of the Americas (excluding Canada) who speak a Latin tongue (Portuguese, Spanish) from birth, or whose parents did. Includes a detailed bio of each artist, and essays focused by major countries. This collection focuses on works of the body, and puts in perspective superstars like Frida Kahlo, Ana Mendieta, Marta Minujin, Lygis Pape and Lygia Clark, setting them within a casts of over one hundred fellow countrywomen. These women are considered radical because of their experimentalism and unconventionality, which often challenges male norms of the chaste and docile female domestic. They have largely been invisible and inaudible within art history, until now. Some real hidden gems are included amidst these fairly obscure works. Many did not consider themselves feminist, although all defied the would be controls over women’s bodies and repression of their art under Patriarchy.

Great resource
This is a must have book. The collection of artists represents many levels of the latin culture in their own country of origin as well as their outside impact such as in USA.

Fascinating
Bought as a gift and the recipient was thrilled looking through it. Neither of us know enough about the subject to critique the coverage of the subject matter, but the book is fascinating and well made.

Disappointing Graphics
I enjoyed the exhibition and was looking forward to the book, but found it disappointing.I found the images generally too small to be useful, including those included in the plates.
