Living in Colorado, Radon is a very real (but completely invisible) threat to one’s health. Many of my neighbors invested in expensive mitigation systems but I just don’t have the funds to install one right now. I also didn’t want to ignore radon altogether, so purchasing a Radon Detector seemed like the next best thing until we can afford the mitigation.First, setup is super easy BUT don’t expect an immediate reading. The device requires a calibration period up to 24 hours so don’t worry if there is no immediate reading. The device will display flashing dashes while it calibrates (I missed this part and impatiently reset the device thinking there was something wrong… oops). After the initial calibration, the device will display the 1 day average, then a 7 day average (the numbers cycle/alternate) as well as the longterm average which adjusts over time as data is collected.I appreciate that this device can be hung on the wall with a screw or it can stand freely using the pop-out stabilizing stand. This is the option we use and it works great since we tend to move it around to gauge readings from different areas in the home. I appreciate knowing the readings in the kids’ rooms as well as the common areas, as they can vary depending on their distance from the basement. I have also utilized this radon detector as a way to gauge the difference in readings when windows are opened/we allow the house to air out. Thankfully our readings are within acceptable limits at this time, but if that changes we will absolutely prioritize the expense of the mitigation system. Knowledge is power!

I had a concern that my home had an above radon reading. I ordered the Inkbird radon meter and put it in different locations within the house. I found that I had a well above normal reading of radon. A normal reading is 4.0 pci or lower, my readings were as high as 28 pci. I had a mitigation system installed and found that the Inkbird meter readings were very similar to the professional meter that the mitigation company used.

For the first month or so, the unit appeared to be working, indicating acceptable radon levels. Suddenly, however, the levels jumped to concerning levels. I followed the manufacturer’s recommendations and tried the plastic bag test. After several weeks in a sealed ziplock bag, the unit shows that the radon levels continue to rise and fall which shouldn’t be happening according to the manufacturer. Unfortunately I have passed the Amazon return window so I’m stuck with what appears to be a faulty unit.

Simple, easy-to-use radon detector for around the house or anywhere you'd want to use it. Comes with three-AAA batteries in the box - all you have to do is install the batteries and you are off and running.It took the detector about 48 hours to start displaying readings. It has both long and short term values on the display which makes keeping track of both historical and current data incredibly easy.The detector is about the size of an average pepper grinder, making it easy to place around the home/wherever you want to take readings. Make sure you leave the detector in the spot you want to take readings for at least a week in order to get a proper idea of the data fluctuations.I did find myself missing the 'smart' functionality of the other INKBIRD products. There is something nice about just logging into the app in order to see all your data in one place. That being said - this is an easy to use and fantastic option for anyone looking for a radon detector and I highly recommend this product.

A little pricey but the Radon Detector does work for both short term and long term monitoring.

This detector has been a great addition to my family room. The room is below grade and tested over 4 pCi/L when we moved in. We put in a remediation system and simply hoped it was doing its job. Now I have a reliable and easy to use way to keep a constant level reading.Setup was a breeze; I just removed the plastic tabs behind the battery cover and hung it on the wall. The next morning it had started displaying the levels. This device has put my mind at ease!

I have several ink bird products. When shopping for a radon detector, I noticed this trusted brand. Unfortunately, the device never functioned for testing. It could not make it past the initial calibration, despite dozens of attempts to reset and change batteries.
