first expensive(relative term) set i bought, and now my travel set, and my gfs favorite out of all of the sets i have bought. all the pieces are proportioned nicely, the black and rosewood can go with many different colored boards. a 2.125-2.25 inch square board is perfect imo, a 2.5 and they start getting lost, all depending on the look you want. this was the set that i based my expectations for set weight on. pawns could be a few grams heavier but im not crying home about that. ive bought about 3 other sets off of amazon around this size king and doing side by side and overall i like this better. the simple bishops, noble knights, the rounded queen head, sturdy. im not afraid to throw them in bags, throw those in a backpack and go to a buddies house and they still look impressive.

This is my first nice wood set of chess men and I love them. They have great weight and slide across the board with ease. They feel good in the hand and they look incredible in the game room. The craftsmanship is remarkable. I cannot wait to add more HOS chess men to the collection.The finials felt loose when I was installing them on the kings but sit nice and snug was fully inside their slot.

Love it. Felting could be a tad more precise, but this is handsome set. An untraditional (white/green, white/blue, etc.) board color scheme goes best with this set, as the white pieces are medium brown and there isn't enough contrast between this set and your typical brown/dark brown board.

Nicely made, but I ended returning them as I found the rosewood color was too dark for “white” pieces. The set needs more contrast between white and black. A bit confusing on the board, especially again at the dark wood squares. But a beautiful set.

Set was good quality, etc. But the HoS could not provide replacement finials or at best it would be a long time for them to deliver.
