95% Leak-proof
My criteria for a bottle/tumbler was strict: Leakproof, toddler-proof, not a lot of fussy parts to wash, NO nooks and crannies that grow mold, and no issues with air pressure (which will force liquid to spurt up out of the straw when you put a lid on, and make it difficult to suck from, etc). These are as close as I can imagine to the above in existence— not utter perfection, but very close. Kiddo can turn them every which way, bang and shake, and they don’t leak. They only have 3 parts: (1) the lid, on which the drinking spout is completely fused; (2) a silicone diaphragm that fits up under the lid, which creates a seal between the cup and lid, and has a spout that the straw fits into. That spout has a valve that only allows liquid through when sucked. Lastly (3), a hard plastic straw. No nooks and crannies, hallelujah! So far we’ve gotten everything quite clean in the dishwasher, though mayyyybe the valve or straw may occasionally benefit from a soak or a quick brush with a straw cleaner (not included). A tiny air vent hole in the lid and corresponding one in the diaphragm relieve air pressure perfectly (make sure they are aligned or it’s less effective). My 2-year old is a typical experimenter, so if there was a great way to get a lot of liquid out, he would have figured it out. The two weaknesses I’d identify are (1) the seemingly unsolvable problem: you CAN still spill any liquid that is sitting IN the straw above the valve— about a teaspoon? All toddlers think this is awesome and will work to dispense it. If there is a design that prevents this without causing the aforementioned nooks and crannies or air pressure issues, no one has yet figured it out. (2) I do wish that the lid tightened a little harder. It has a stop point, which may be to prevent damaging the silicone diaphragm, but I’d like it just a liiiiitle tighter. My kids’ hands are way too small to get the proper grip on the lid, but otherwise I honestly think they might be able to muscle it open. What caused it I don’t know, but once I had two of these that fell to their sides inside a lunch bag and over several hours leaked more than I thought they could. So I’d say only store them UPRIGHT. So maybe not the cup to toss into a beach bag, but SO great for everyday use, for liquids other than water, to use in the car, etc. Huge win!

One of the better options
I have tried several different kids straw cups and this one is one of the best. Here are my pros and consPros: doesn’t leak when on its sideVery easy to drink from when assembled correctlyEasy to cleanCute designCons: It leaks when shaken or thrown or when cup is held upside for an extended period of time, which might be something to consider when traveling with the cupThe straw is hard. I knew this upon ordering, but it just makes me nervous when my kid is jumping/running around with this cup. I like the soft straws because they are safer, but the caveat there is that they leak easier. The silicone plate that fits inside the lid has to be lined up correctly or else water will not come out correctlyOverall, i’m happy with these cups and will continue to use them.

Okay
Quality is nice. Color is as pictured. My son didn’t like that the straw didn’t bend. Easy for my toddler to hold with both hands. Has been dropped a few times and only leakage out the straw. Seems to be durable. Does not fit in the car seat cup holder so we don’t take it out the house.

This is the cup we’ve all been waiting for.
Seriously, a cup that’s SPILL PROOF, has a straw, and easy to clean?? It’s the holy grail trifecta of cups. I’m so glad I discovered this, and I’ve been recommending them to all my friends with kids. I hope Contigo makes larger ones in the future for my older kid, cuz he’s been asking for his own.Best cup ever.

Leak proof & easy to clean
I love these cups! I had the other kind of contigo cups but they had so many small places you couldn’t clean and they’d mold pretty fast. I got these cups on a whim hoping they were different and they are a huge improvement! 10/10 recommend these

Hard to clean
Pretty close to leak-proof but my grandkids still bang them upside down and drops do come out. Hard to get clean and you can eventually see mold.
