Using Solar-Sync is badly explained in the manual.
A house we purchased had the Hunter Pro-C already installed, so we had no choice in the matter. That unit recently gave out due to a bad module. As it was an older unit, I could not find replacement modules. The module I am speaking of is the cartridge that slides into place in the timer where the wires for each station attach (see photo). The unit under review here does not have these modules/cartridges, as there are 12 locations on the built-in "module" where station wires connect. So I'm hoping they will last a few years, because if it goes bad then the entire timer unit will need to be replaced. Since the old unit we inherited was a Hunter Pro-C, I decided to purchase another one to make replacement easy. It was.I decided to replace the old Hunter rain sensor as well. May as well start with a whole new system. I purchased Hunter Sprinkler SOLARSYNC Solar Sync Kit for Use with PCC and Pro-C Controllers Sprinklers also on Amazon. Used the old wires to pull the new wires through to the timer/controller. That was pretty easy as well. Next, I installed the Solar Sync module (see second photo) and placed it loosely inside the controller. There was enough room to fit the wires and the module behind the display board. That was pretty easy as well.I set the solar-sync module per the instructions it came with and set the controller rain sensor to "active." It immediately set the controller to "off." It was a bit drizzly that day, so I didn't think anything of it and thought everything was all set. Nope. After a week, the grass started drying out, so I checked the controller and it still displayed "off." Okay, something was wrong. I switched the controller dial to Solar-Sync and all I see are dashes. I look at the module and all the settings are correct. I looked through the manuals, rechecked the wires. No problems. Somehow something in the manual for the controller (I think) didn't hit me as it should. It said to connect the Solar-Sync wires to the SEN ports on the controller and it didn't mention anything about the module. But I had this Solar-Sync module that came with the box and the instructions for it said to connect those wires to the black and green wires with the sensor wires. It took me about ten minutes to start to wonder if the PCC1200 controller didn't need the Solar-Sync module. No where in both manuals does it say that certain controller models have built in Solar-Sync capabilities, and all that is needed is to connect the sensor unit directly to the controller. This one is one of those with the built-in feature. After removing the module and connecting the sensor wires directly to the controller, everything works fine.

Replaced older version due to lightning
Previous hunter had the power modules. This one wired straight to terminals plenty of room for wire management. Easy setup.

Requires AC wiring to use
I bought this unit because I needed additional zones to accommodate drip irrigation watering cycles, I have been using a hunter 8 zone indoor unit.I did not realize that this unit required AC wiring to use when I ordered. This is not a big deal but must be done safely. I am using it indoors and will have to get some extra parts to make a safe AC connection via a plug. Power hookup outdoors would be more complex because the AC connection needs to be watertight. I have not installed the unit yet but the programming instructions look very similar to the Hunter 8 zone unit I have been using. Construction looks very good, if you don't need a locking cover (indoors) you can easily pull the hinge pin out.
