silly ghost story
My first grader liked the book and asked to read it over and over again. I saw him sneaking with the book and rereading his favorite parts and laughing. The story is exciting and fun and silly, and it is not scary. It is well written and easy to read, even if it is a bit too advanced for my son - he can read it, but the amount of text is simply too much for him yet. He asked if there were any more stories about Agatha, and we found some on Amazon, but they had different illustrator, and he said he did not want them then. There is another book in the series coming up in December 2016, that is illustrated by Wes Hargis, too, and we are looking forward to read it together.Take a note that there is a scene where Agatha is pulling her hair out because she is thinking about something, and her friends remind her to stop.

An Entertaining Ghost Story, But a Couple of Drawbacks
Many children in the 7 to 10 year targeted age group for this book like ghost stories and this one is written with a sense of humor and should not be particularly frightening to young readers. That said, I did have a couple of problems with this volume. First, it was originally published in the United Kingdom and apparently not edited for the US market. Thus, it has at least one word not commonly used in the US (“tiddlies”). This might cause confusion for US children in this age group.Of more significance is that at least one child in this book repeatedly uses bad grammar when speaking. I realize that many children actually do speak this way, but why emphasize incorrect grammar for young impressionable readers. I recognize that some classics such as Huckleberry Finn employ bad grammar when children speak, but it is done there for a specific purpose. Here, the purpose of using incorrect grammar escapes me.Despite the drawbacks, children may find this book entertaining.

Fun book
This is fun book for elementary school kids. I like that it is ghost story but not a scary one because so many of them are. It has some humerus parts in it, which my daughter really enjoyed. She said it was a fun read. It's pretty quick and easy for her to read. I like books that are fun and cute more than scary, especially for the children. I thought the writing was good. I would recommend it.

Cute, But Not Too Scary Ghost Story
Though it's difficult for me to evaluate this book from the perspective of a 10-year old, I thought the storey was engaging and the illustrations cute. Agatha Parrot and her friends Ivy, Ellie, Bianca and Martha live on Odd Street, where all the houses have odd numbers, and attend the Odd Street School just down the street. During a dark and stormy night, Agatha hears the school bell ringing incessantly - DONG! - DONG! - DONG!, and the whole gang becomes convinced that it is the work of a ghost. So they about trying to solve the mystery. The book is populated with many other characters, none of them "normal", but all interesting in their own way. I did find that perhaps there a few too many characters, and I started to get them mixed up... Agatha warns the reader that it is a scary ghost story, but it's definitely not too scary for a young reader; I don't think it will keep anyone up at night, unless they're reading under the covers with a flashlight, which is not the worst thing that can happen to a child, in my opinion!

A Cute Reader for Any Age!
There are children's books and there are children's books. This book, wasn't just made for children, it tossed me back to my days of being a child, reading Judy Blume! The ideals, Agatha's way of thinking and how she went about the story made for a boisterous read for both my son and myself! We finished the book in one sitting and thought, "I could read another one of these!" My son agreed- laughing loudly and rolling about our classroom floor (that's where we read together; in my office, lying about the floor is the best place). We also found the introduction to The Gang and their qualms entertaining and good to know. Illustrations of the characters, like Ellie who's afraid of nonfat milk because she believes they come from skeleton cows- only elementary kids can think of things like that! The other illustrations of the book are hilarious, all squiggly and such. I don't see this sort of stuff every day, so it was a blast! For the full review: [...]**Book provided by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, for an honest review.

My 9-year-old loved this book
My 9-year-old loved this book. She sat down and finished it in less than an hour. She said she liked that it was in the first person. The narrator, Agatha Parrot, tells the story with humor, even though the mystery is about a ghost. Agatha solves the mystery with the help of a group of friends who are alternately really serious or really funny in both their actions and their speech. As the story is told, she gives enough clues so that the ending makes sense, but doesn't give the ending away. This was a quick read for my advanced reader, and would work for kids in the 2nd-5th grades.

Cute Little Mystery
We liked this book. It is a quick read, narrated by the title character and filled with juvenile digressions and social jokes and traumas. I got through the book in less than and hour and probably shorter for the two kids who read it in our house. I did over hear chuckles so it's humor does seem to strike a chord. What I found most interesting about the book is that it really focuses on the social lives of a group of girls and their nemesi. It was interesting how much more my partners daughter liked it than my son. There are pranks, bullying, support, and friendship in the book and it is all well done. It's definitely written for younger people in mind.7-9 is where I would put it.Illustrations are cute, the story is cute. All in all a cute little book.
