Do I really need a gauge, no. Can I see the difference between 1 and 2 coats of wax, yes. It's also interesting to see the thickness of the paint protection film. Is it really accurate, I don't know, but I'm using it as a reference point between 2 areas which works well.

The gauge is accurate and provides precise measurements of paint thickness. It's essential for anyone involved in automotive work or restoration projects where knowing the exact thickness of the paint is crucial.

This is a nice tool to have if you do any amount of paint work and want to be able to have a better idea how thick the paint is on the car. For me I plan to record the thickness of the primer before I put down the base color and clear and record each layer. That way I can keep track of the thickness of the finish paint as I color sand and buff. I like the idea of being able to keep an eye on the thickness of the clearcoat as I sand to help me from sanding thru. The tool is easy to use, though I have figured out that you need to be sure to put it on the surface squarely to get an accurate reading. The tool can be used on Ferrous and Non-ferrous "metals" but doesn't work on fiberglass bodies or Plastic body panels.

The media could not be loaded.  This coating thickness gauge quickly and easily gives a measurement of thickness. A carrying bag and calibration checks comes included in order to verify accuracy, and it is accurate to an amazing degree.The device itself is surprisingly easy to use, intuitive and providing measurements without having to continually check the user manual in order to figure out what to do next.For my own use, I wanted to be able to check where I have enough paint thickness to be able to use rubbing compound to remove a decades accumulation of scratches without worrying about blasting through the paint. Gauge was giving me error code everytime that I turned it on.It read different amounts of paint in the same exactly spot, very disappointed.

This device is easy to understand, affordable for any automobile inspector. Simple instructions, batteries included. Small size takes up little pocket space, and a pouch is included.

This paint meter works well and it’s both consistent and easy to use. The package comes with everything you need, including a mini screw river to get started with the battery door. The packaging looks also professional and just well thought out. My only negative comment is the LCD screen which looks dim from some angles especially using it under non-perfect light. Overall though, I am pretty impressed!

I occasionally do paint corrections and like to know if a car or a panel has been re painted. This has limitations and can’t read plastic substrates but it works good if you’re on a budget or can’t justify the cost for the big option, high dollar ones. I do like that it comes with calibration plates should it lose accuracy. I would recommend.
