4 Classic Albums

Considering how much the four Gil Evans albums incorporated in this compilation are selling for on an individual basis, this two disc set is a self-recommending buy. The music is modernistic ("New Bottle Old Wine" came out in 1958; "Great Jazz Standards in 1959; "Out of the Cool" in 1960; and "Into the Hot" 1961), and the newly remastered sound is top notch. If "Into the Hot" isn't quite at the level of the other three albums, it still fits the Evans mold and has some good tracks.Those looking to add other Gils Evans discs (aside from the classics made with Miles Davis), should also consider "The Individualism of Gil Evans."

Great material from one of the greatest arrangers and composers in the history of Jazz ! Just ask Miles Davis , too late for that so just check it out Included in the set is a great disc that Cannonball Adderley is featured on. Gils' theme song " La Nevada" , is a real example of his genius !
