Works great after issue resolved.
The original product I received would not turn on but I got a replacement after only a few days. The seller was very easy to work with in getting the issue resolved. The new radio I received worked as it should. It has clear audio and is super easy to program using software and the included cable. Everything seems to be of good quality. I tried the new battery on the defective radio and it worked fine as well. I read a lot of reviews saying the radio is “dirty” and it might be, but it suits my needs just fine in my area. The air band is nice too since I live close to an airport.

Absolutely a Great Radio
The Talkpod is a great radio. As I have several radios, several claim to receive the airband frequency they do but the audio is absolutely terrible. This radio receives the airband frequencies crystal clear no distortion at all. The receive on all the other frequencies is also great. I've had great reports on how it sounds when talking on 2 meter. Easily programmed with Chirp or Talkpod software. I had a little issue but Ferris Wang with Talkpod was on top of it and got it resolved. This company stands by there products. I look forward to what Talkpod comes out with in the future.

CHIRP-compatible, USB-C charging, little airband radio
I can't speak to the transmission quality or spurious emissions noted by other users (although apparently, Talkpod says these have been corrected,) but I love this for what I bought it for. I primarily bought this to be a little airband scanner for when I'm working close to our airport or monitoring during drone use.The Ryobi-inspired green/yellow stands out well in a dark backpack. The color screen is a little easier to read than the backlit monochrome LCD screens on some of the other cheap import radios (Quansheng, Baofeng, et al.) I think overall, it's better-built as well. Other reviews pointed out some issues with mold lines or the battery cover not fitting correctly, but I have not had those issues with mine. Definitely feels more solid than the Quansheng K5(8).Airband reception is pretty good, especially with the newest firmware. NOAA weather radio reception is pretty good too, especially compared with a standlone radio I have specifically for that purpose. I'm currently pairing this unit with a Diamond 2m band antenna. The stock ducky is surprisingly effective, but breaks down a little when several miles from my local aiport. If you're a spotter, it should work great. FM radio reception is decent, but if you really want to listen to music, this is a pretty poor way of doing it. The scan function is a little slow, but if you want something to scan dozens of frequencies you'd be better served with a dedicated scanner anyhow. I only have about 8 frequencies programmed in and I catch most of what I'm looking for.Cool features: Charges via USB C (and actually works while plugged in without a battery). The included programming cable is of better quality than a lot of the Baofeng and Baofeng-clone units. It's also a standard CH340 cable and worked well with other radios that use the Baofeng standard (like the Quansheng.) The VFO display mode can be changed to show the frequency tag and is easy to read.Biggest gripes: as others have said the manual is too small and the instructions contained therein aren't great. The firmware software is ONLY available (as of March 2024) in Chinese, so you'll need to find a video tutorial to show you how to upgrade it (although I found a couple with a quick search.) The Talkpod-provided programming software is a bit clunky, and seems like a ripoff of CHIRP, which supports this radio and works far better anyhow. The screen does work a little weird, as if it's missing a polarizer or its exceedingly cheap (which may be the case anyhow.) The colors glare a little bit, and it seems they're different from eye to eye. The scan function 'holds' a little bit at the end of the transmission before continuing to scan, and it doesn't appear this delay can be changed.

Useless without real instructions.
When opening this box, the first thing you'll see is "WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF GMRS COMMUNICATIONS". To me, this was a great sign, since I am not familiar with this type of technology or how to use it. The "Welcome" message -- to me -- means that they don't expect the user to have any previous knowledge, and will help one get started.I took out the radio, "User Manual", and accessories; charged the battery; and started reading the instructions. The manual explains -- with photos -- how to attach the battery, belt clip, antenna, and accessory cable. It details what each of the buttons -- and other parts of the radio -- is. It has a table listing the technical specifications that are referred to by the abbreviations found on the keypad and in the menu. And it shows how to turn the device on. After that, you're on your own.I have used, sold, installed, repaired, and/or figured my way through hundreds -- if not thousands -- of various electronic devices over the years, but have NEVER (until now) come across anything that was anywhere near as unambiguous as this thing. When first turned on, it announces that it's in "Channel Mode". If you try to scan up or down, it just switches between a bunch of pre-set channels. Try to enter a specific frequency, and it just goes back to where it was. If you press the "FM" button, it will switch to FM, and let you listen to the radio (but you have to find the stations manually, because there's no way to seek or scan). I have pressed every button (except for the "SOS"), and cannot get it to switch into any other mode. I can get to -- and scroll through -- the menu, but I have no idea how to actually select or change any of the listed settings.I tried the manufacturer's website, where I found a blog, and a download of the same manual that is included in the box. I found some articles about very specific functions. Some of them start out with "It's easy!", before spewing a bunch of really confusing jargon that only a very experienced user would understand. I did not find any actual guide to using the equipment.I then searched the Web, which resulted in many entries by seasoned radio users bashing this device for various issues, such as interference, noise, lack of specific frequencies, and lack of specific functions. I -- again -- did not find any useful information about getting started in using this radio. This device boasts tons of different modes and uses. It's a very compact, complicated, technology-packed device. There's absolutely no excuse for neglecting to include a detailed user manual that actually guides a new user through its various functions. This is NOT a small detail, or minor oversight; it is a major failure, and a real reason for any novice not to buy this product.
