Humminbird 587ci HD Waterproof Marine GPS and Chartplotter with Sounder

This is my second hummingbird, however, my first w/ GPS Maps. I am happy once again w/ my choice. Installation wasn't bad but placement of the transducer was made harder by poor instructions. The plastic mount is fine but the way hummingbird uses the plastic mount for the back up of the screw is poor because it strips out if you are not careful. Additionally, the Map screen can be to small if you don't pay attention Other wise, the system works just like I expected and then some. Still there are a lost of features that I need to figure out. Over all I recommend the fish/depth/gps system for the price.

This may be a good unit once you learn how to use it. It does not come with a user manual, comes with a disc. I do not have a desktop or laptop on my boat. I had to print out over 40 pages of instructions and still did not have all the information needed to fully utilize all capabilities of this unit. Also, you have to use a separate battery from your boat battery because it picks up interference from your electrical system on the boat and turns itself off or locks up and you have to unplug the power source to clear the problem. So, the jury is still out on how good this product is.

I purchased this unit about 2 years ago and have been in love ever since. It has alot of features that have come in very handy, and some that I still haven't completely figured out. The guy who speaks about interference is, in my opinion wrong. I had the same problem, but the problem was that when I started the boat the circuit that i had the unit wired to shut off during the ignition process. This was causing the unit to either lock up with some funny lines or shut off completely. Once you wire it in line directly to the battery this goes away. Don't forget to put a fusible link inline as well. The unit has a great feature that tracks you and shows a line on the screen. My nephew calls it Ginger Bread crumbs, lol. One night out on the Delta after a night of striper fishing the fog had rolled in real thick, if it weren't for that feature I don't think we would have made it back that night. As far as I'm concerned it works fantastic, this is my third hummingbird, while its my first Chart plotter. I have zero problems with being able to see it and love the features. The drift alarm has come in handy as well, while trying to verify that our anchor was holding in some windy weather. You won't be disappointed if you buy it. The only thing I wish they would do, is provide it with more detailed maps. They seem kind of basic. Perhaps you can purchase detailed marine maps for it, but i haven't seen any. Overall....Great product.

The Humminbird 587ci works very well. The display is bright and clear. The Avionics Hotmaps Premium South Lake Map software is not so good. It can not distinguish the marsh from the water and therefore they appear in the same color. The locations of the canals and bayous also do not show in the correct locations. I fish the Louisiana Marsh area including the Biloxi Marsh and surrounding bays. It would be nice it the marsh were a different color from the shallow waters.

I think my old Lorance was easier to operate . color is to dark can't see things as clerar. I am disspointed.

I bought this for my husband and he loves it. It works so very good and helps him with fish location as well as leaving a bread crumb trail so he can find his way back to me!

Great value for price. Easy to install. A bit complicated to set up but once done, a great Aid to Navigation. Waypoints easy to add and screen easy to see day n nite.

Great product and a great value, I am so looking forward to charting my favorite fishing holes and feeling safer out there on the water with this quality product.
