One of the Top 3 Tools in my Sharpening Arsenal.
Once you have taken care to ensure your knives are sharp at the outset, most of the time when your kitchen or other knives seem like they need sharpening (e.g., using the whetstone or diamond stone), what they really need is a few passes with a honing rod and leather strop to bring them back to the razor cutting edge you expect. Use both of these tools regularly, and you'll find that your knives under typical use hardly ever need the diamond stones. This honing rod is generously sized both in diameter in length, which means it can handle anything from my cleaver and large kitchen knives to my smaller-bladed pocket knives. I use a set of angle guides to ensure I am honing sharpening with the correct blade angle geometry. For my Japanese knives I'll do the 14 degree honing guide and finish up with 11 degrees on the strop. For my inexpensive, utilitarian cleaver I'll use the 20 degree honing guide and finish up with 17 degrees on the strop. ~5-10 minutes per blade 1-2 times a month with the honing rod and strop is all that is needed to keep all of my knives paper-cutting sharp. After about a year of use this honing rod is holding up very well. With care I doubt I'll ever need to replace it. It has taken on a bit of color from my cleaver (a high-carbon non-stainless blade where I used a boiled vinegar patina to protect against rust), but it continues to work great for all of my blades. It is very smooth and hard to the touch-- the advertised 3000-grit seems accurate and works well for re-setting the edge and making sure things stay razor sharp. I'm impressed!

Sharpeak 12-Inch 3000-Grit Ceramic Sharpening Rod - Thumbs up
I saw a similar Ceramic sharpening rod being used on a Youtube video and decided it was time to get one to compare to the steel sharpening rod we've had in our kitchen for years. Great sharpening rod. Love the 20-degree guides. They make it relatively easy to set the angle and hone my kitchen knives. Certainly, better than the steel rod. I would say that it's a honing rod for knives that are not completely dull. You can bring a relatively dull knife back to being sharp, but it takes a lot of passes. It works best for me as a honing rod. It is longer than the steel rod by about 2.5" but it fits in the same drawer as the steel rod, no problem. The rubber end makes it convenient to use on the countertop. Easy to hold. I'm glad I bought it. I'll likely retire the steel rod now. Recommended.

Works as advertised!
I bought the Ceramic Sharpening steel to keep our kitchen knives sharp. My wife likes to to dull them by cutting into things she shouldn't as well as not to ever use cutting boards. The Sharpening steel that came with the knife set didn't do the job. The ceramic rod works well to keep them sharp with just a few strokes on each side. I also like the angle guide included at the base of the handle. The 20 degree setting is about perfect for the knives I have. When the ceramic starts to get black from the transfer of metal to the ceramic, it is easy to clean with hot water and a plastic scratch pad.Well worth the cost.

Very fine grit 3,000
This rod is exactly what I was looking for. I have a sharpening steel that helps raise a burr the ceramic rod is to remove the burr and hone the steel which means removing scratches from sharpening process. It brings a shine to the bevel, & straightens the apex to a very sharp working edge. The length i good for my 8 inch chefs knife. There is a built in angle guide in the handle at 20% the rod cleans up easily I use isopropyl alcohol on a rag a few swipes you have a clean disinfected rod ready for your next knife edge tune up.I think this rod will provide many years of service to all of my knives, not just my kitchen blades. It is a good investment and excellent value for your hard earned money

Great for touching up knives in heavy rotation
Very happy with the purchase. Works great to touch up knives between bringing them to the stones for a true sharpening.

Amazing value for money
Really great product.I brought it to a retired meat cutter neighbor and he absolutely put on a show for me. Brought back the edge on my knives very well. Everyone needs to have one in their kitchen, as sharpening is only needed about once a year for home cooks.Excellent value, comfortable, and easy to use. I appreciate the guard/handle.Highly recommended.

The finer grit puts a razor's edge on my best knives
So far ... so good. I've had this sharpener for about a week, and used it on three knives, abut twice on each. My prior sharpener was the 600-grit The Ultimate Edge in the oval shape, and it worked out very well, but over 18 months, the diamond surface grit has started to wear off.I'm very particular about my various non-serrated knives and they were not really needing a severe redressing. From the Amazon page, this looked almost like a honing rod rather than a sharpener, but I took a chance. I decided to try the extra fine grit (1,200) and so far I'm very satisfied, finding this Sharpal device (new to my experience) really does enable me to achieve an extremely sharp edge. I use it about every 2nd or 3rd time for each knife before I use it, and I usually do only 2 swipes on each side of the blade. With its very fine grit, I'm confident that VERY little metal is being removed. I like the extra length (12") and the heaviness/sturdiness of the item is conforming without it being cumbersome. It feels like it's very high quality. I'm hoping for the best, and will update this review as needed.
