PENNMariner II Boat Spinning Fishing Rod

Still a couple of months until fishing season but this rod looks good. Well made. One thing I like if the grip. Its not round, more triangle shape so to me its easier to keep it oriented the way you want. Not a big deal but it seems like a good idea. The packaging was pretty good. It looked like it had been through a war zone but the rod was in good shape inside the box. It was packed with a sort of right angled piece of heavy cardboard inside the box.

Great rod I've been offshore fishing with it now 6 times and it Handels the fish very well.

Love it. Love Penn products. Love Amazon. I always use Uglystiks, but I bought a small real, a 4000 so I figured I’d pick up this Mariner iii 30-50lbs rod. I live the triangular EVA grips and butt gimbal. It’s only 6.6ft but good for boat fishing. It arrived boxed and secured with snap ties and wrapped in plastic. No damage to eyelets. Perfect and box had no damage. The bottom half of rod is red and upper half is black. Very close to ugly Stik in quality. I think the tip may be just a touch stiffer than Uglystik. Over all, awesome war-stick. I bought the Northshore fishing rod protective sleeve for it also. Use them on all my rods. Neoprene. You’ll love them. 52” fits 6.6ft perfect. Now get off the couch and go hook some lip. ;) happy fishing…

A little heavy for my needs. Very good quality. Would be excellent rod for saltwater use.

What a stout rod! I have a heavy action Offshore Angler (BassPro brand) 6' boat rod that doesn't have near the backbone this MedHeavy does.Matches up perfectly with a Penn Fierce 2 6000 reel and Shimano BaitRunner 6000 or 8000.50lb PowerPro braid seems to be the sweet spot with the described rig - Cast a mile and line is very manageable. 80lb works fine as well, just the obvious loss in line capacity and casting performance.You could fish the bottom or pitch baits with this rod. I've had no trouble landing 30lb plus fish with it. Will be buying more soon!

I bought two. It took a couple of returns to get two undamaged rods but overall I am pleased. The triangulator foregrip is comfortable. I paired them with Diawa BG60's and spooled with Powerpro 50# braid. They work great for jigging tuna and the gimbal butt is good for trolling stripers in the fall. For $40 you can't beat this rod!!

This is a beefy rod! I ordered the heavy action, and I can't wait to try it out. The grip is a little thicker than the other rods I have and its triangle shaped. I think it will be comfortable fighting a big one. My heart sank when the ups guy delivered it because the box was 2 pieces and taped in the middle. The tape had lost its hold on the cardboard and the box was hanging together by a thread, but the rod was fine. Going to order another in a medium heavy next.

For the price the rod is great. Performed perfect!
