Engaging sorting fun for train lovers
Magnetic color maze is engaging and fun. The magnetic pen has a nice parking place in the bottom corner and an attached cord so it can't get separated. The magnet itself is of adequate strength but not too strong which is good. The balls are little and you would find yourself dragging a huge pile along with a super strong magnet. The pen needs to be straight on to capture a ball well. After a child has the ball they want, the pen will hold it when it's slanted into proper pencil grip. Many times the pen will capture a bunch of colors. I tested how many it will drag along in a clustered group. Around 15 actually. Kids will have to figure out some techniques as to how to drop off the colors they don't want. I found that if you hover the pen and not put it directly on the plexiglass it was more likely to take the closest ball only and not many balls. This activity was fun. Kids can learn about magnetism, fine motor control and strategy building. Hand eye coordination, targeting, colors and sorting are skills also incorporated with this engaging game. I enjoyed playing with this and know my students will have lots of fun with it in the morning. Well made, good purchase.

Not what I wanted it to be
This is a cute idea, but others have done it better. These types of drag and pull magnet puzzles are great for quiet busy activities- or they can be. The train motif is cool, but the colors are a bit samey- and with almost as many white as gray it’s confusing. The beads are hard to control and often cling to each other. This makes it frustratingly difficult to separate and sort each bead. It’s finicky- so the bumps of a car ride would quickly derail any progress that did happen to be made. For an older elementary student this may be fine- the fine motor control is at that level at least. But the color sorting and counting is really more for pre-k… I want to like it, it technically works, but it’s a bad fit for my family, and I doubt it will fit any other much better.

Great gift for young kids
Really liked this maze toy, its like a magnet wonderland for my kids. Here's what i thought about it:Pros:Gets kids excited about colors and numbers.Enhances fine motor skills with those tiny magnets.Fun and educational, real smart.Cons:Bit tricky for younger ones, might need a helping hand.

Grabs too many balls at once
The magnet grabs about 2-4 balls each time making it impossible to grab only one color to carry to the corresponding train cab. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of the activity. Also mine had wood chips covering the entire inside of the clear cover

Fun toy!
So much fun I had to sit down and get all of the brightly colored little balls into the right colored car immediately. I had to test it right? And I was actually impressed, because for an older child there will be a challenge to "doing it right". A small child will grow into that phase of this toy and have fun while they do it.The object of this wooden maze is to get all of the right colored little balls into the correct colored train cars. Sounds easy right? It would be except when you use the attached magnetic wand to pick up the little colored ball you can easily pick up a multitude of colored balls all at once. The trick is to capture just one on the wand so you can easily move it to the right colored car. It is much more difficult than it sounds for a child. But that's what make this toy one that will grow with the child and his skills. So in my opinion this toy is well worth the price and is totally giftable.

Poor design difficult to use
This is smaller than other brands of the same idea like that one from Melissa and Doug Magnetic Wand Maze Or that from Lakeshore Learning magnetic color maze. The same concept put the pen is so small and the balls are even tinier that at least 3 magnetic balls attach to the magnetic pen or wand at any given time making it impossible to sort the colored magnetic balls. Other brands the ball is slightly bigger then Diameter of the wand and therefore it’s easy to keep one ball on the pen for sorting. My almost 4 yr old who loves games like this was very eager to sort the colored balls with the wand. But he got frustrated and hated it. I got frustrated and hated it too. It’s impossible to sort the balls.

Fun puzzle for 3 year old
My 3 year old daughter loves puzzles, magnets, counting, and identifying colors in everything so this was just the perfect kind of puzzle for her. The magnets are strong so sometimes the color balls get stuck together but she is able to separate them by just flicking them at a corner. She then sorts through all of them to the correct colors and then at the end we count them all. Definitely educational and a fun activity for her. The puzzle itself looks really nice and looks well made. Would make a great gift.

Too difficult for tiny hands
I bought this product for my three year old niece to play with. I think it's too hard for that age. The magnet holder is smaller than a pencil, which isn't easy for tiny hands to manipulate. When one uses the magnet stick, it's super easy to collect multiple balls at the same time. Again, this is going to frustrate a child. By the time a child is old enough to use this more easily, they are way past the point of needing help with colors and numbers. And I know this is too picky of me, but the blue balls are not the same color as the blue train car. That's annoying. I gave it three stars because it actually does work, and still might be fun for a child from 5-6.
