I'VE READ ALL 5 OF NOV'S BOOKS AND THIS MAY BE MY FAVORITE ONE SO FAR. IT IS SO CONSTANT AND POLYRYTHMATHMIC, WHICH IS REFLECTIVE OF THE WRITER AS WELL AS THE TIMES. IT READS LIKE PLAYING TWO DIFFERENT JAZZ RECORDS AT THE SAME TIME. GENIUSLY USING OVERSTIMULATION TO REPRODUCE THE FEELING OF TEEN ANGST GROWING UP IN NEW YORK CITY. NOV TRUELY DRAGS YOU ALONG AND INCLUDES YOU IN THE INTIMATE DETAILS OF HIS LIFE WHILE STILL HOLDING THE READER AT AN ARMS DISTANCE AND LETTING US KNOW HE DONT TRUST US FOR S***, BUT HE'LL TELL US ANYWAY. A GREAT WRITER, A BETTER MAN.

A powerful and entertaining read.
Great, powerful, engrossing. Plenty of drug, graffiti, chase and fight stories, along with Nov's own explanations of why the world is messed up. It is written like a train derailing at times--violent and unstoppable, and at other times get a bit ranty. Awesome book though, one of the best things I've read in a while and written by a guy who can describe the street life of a New York graffiti writer well.

strange yet ...
This book is easy to read but a liitle difficult at first to really get in and understand. I really enjoyed how it is written ... a kind of continuous present half dream half reality.Anyhow ... I'm gonna try and get the other two

wow!
An exhausting, riveting, raw, poetic tale of a young graffiti writer. Dumar Brown, aka: "NOV", expresses the anguish of (trying to) survive the mighty struggle called LIFE. A tweaked but very real view of the world from a simultaneously inquisitive and cynical mind, that is smashing up against unforgiving, urban reality. Massive props to Mr. Brown for having the skill to capture fleeting thoughts that previously seemed too ephemeral to capture.
