Very heavy. Performance may vary with different book bindings
Attractive in an industrial way and very useful to have available when using a fairly complex recipe when baking or cooking as it will hold open a book at the required point in the event that it is presented as a double-page spread. The "KitchenCraft Industrial Kitchen Metal / Wooden Cookbook Stand & Tablet Holder, 26 x 21 cm (10” x 8.5”)" replaces one previously gifted and made entirely of perspex that was not very good at holding the pages on the correct place, which this one does well; it was dropped, shattered and then discarded but never replaced other than by using two large elastic bands to retain the pages.Being constructed of wood with metal fittings it has sufficient weight to ensure its own stability, which would be greater with a book on-board. It has a fold-down flap at the rear to support it easel-style at a comfortable reading angle (subject to the reader's height and that of the table or work-top). It is partially collapsible and could potentially be stored fairly flat in a drawer or on-edge in a cupboard, bookcase or bookshelf. Annoyingly, a means to secure the flap when stored has been overlooked. It is also sufficiently stable to support a tablet or small laptop and it may also support most two-in-one laptop-tablets used in tablet mode. It works adequately with some of the A4 presentation books in which downloaded or printed recipes obtained from various sources, including family members. There is at least one compromise in the design in that the book support is fixed, non-adjustable and does not provide sprung page retainers that may better suit a slim pamphlet or recipe book. The design of the bracket may obscure portions of a recipe's ingredients or instructions or, if the stand is used with a tablet or other such device, portions of the screen. The support has a finite capacity of approximately 37mm to include the book cover and a certain quantity of pages when the book is opened at that position; it should be usable with most known cookbooks although how well it performs may depend on the book's thickness and binding as some stay open more easily than others. The wood should be wiped down should it ever become stained with butter, egg or any other ingredient fluids and never immersed in water. An occasional light application of wood oil or vegetable oil may help preserve it. It is reasonably priced by Amazon at about the same level as several possible alternatives, all of which appear to feature rotatable page retainers which this does not.
