Kingpin: Born Against

If you like the Kingpin then this one is for you
If you like the Kingpin then this one is for you, it is a well thought out story and every character has their flaws. I really do not like covers that depict something which is not in the story, Elektra and Bullseye are not in the story, for the better I would add, so why have Marvel put them on the cover, thus the loss of one star.

A Character Study that Demonstrates How Kingpin Can Destroy Those that Fall into His Web
An absolutely stunning mini series/character study of Daredevil's arch nemesis. Taking a cue from the Netflix series' fantastic character study of the character (as portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio), Rosenberg's mini series follows Wilson Fisk and he attempts to win over a local writer to pen his memoir, ostensibly to prove that he has overcome his demons and is now on the side of the angels. The book follows the life of down on her luck author Sarah Dewey and is a prefect snapshot of how Fisk wins over broken people to his favor and morphs them into tools for his own ends, all while Rosenberg maintains a veil of possibility throughout the book that perhaps Fisk has turned over a new leaf. However, as Sarah falls deeper into Fisk's snare and runs afoul of some of his old partners in crime such as Tombstone, the real costs of making a deal with a devil are displayed. Between Rosenberg's tremendous characters and Torres' solid art direction this is a great noir story. A tragedy of a character study that demonstrates how Fisk can both improve and destroy a person's life, the manner in which Rosenberg manages to throw off your expectations is great. While the cover is deceiving (Elektra and Bullseye don't feature in the story and even Daredevil has a minor role as an antagonist for Sarah, assuming the worst about her just for her having done business with Fisk), the book is an absolute winner. Definitely one of the strongest solo mini series Marvel has put out in recent years and a great companion piece for Bendis' recent Defenders title or fans of the Netflix shows.

This is the story of Wilson Fisk, Kingpin
Brilliantly thought out. A good read and the art first class. We are given a glimpse into the Kingpin's early life and how in present times he lives a double life. There are also subtle hints as to the origin of Daredevil such as a poster in a gym to do with Matt Murdock's dad. Anyone who works for Wilson Fisk is tainted in some way by Wilson Fisk whatever the role they play.

Good read
The Kingpin is a character I have watched grow into THE organized crime figure in the Marvel universe. Great angle on a great bad guy. Definitely recommend. Good stuff, Maynard.

Great comic!
If you are a fan of Daredevil, Wilson Fisk, or the Daredevil show in general, you will love this comic! It does a great job of expanding the character and it's a great story.
