I made a Swedish fire log as my first project. Lots of fun. The auger is very sharp and cuts easily. This will be fin to take camping. Love it!

This is an interesting tool for rustic construction. If a person is going on an extended hiking or hunting trip, I can see it being used to construct a temporary shelter or camp furniture using peg construction. I did some test cuts but did not actually build anything yet.The auger cuts well in fresh wood. I used a dowel from Home Depot as a handle. It slow going, but saves weight over carrying a brace and bit. Actually kind of fun to use!To make a handle you need to find a straight limb that is about the right size and then use the sharpened tube at the top to trim the dowel out. It needs to be driven down the limb to cut. Another limb or rock works. It's easy to use but it can be difficult to find the right sized limb to trim.I would recommend carrying along a dowel to use as a handle, although the handle could be made in the field. Then use the auger to drill holes and make the pegs.I only gave it four stars because it would be a lot of work to make anything significant. Four stars for ingenuity!One othe thing. The first one I ordered got lost by Amazon. It got onto the truck but disappeared. After waiting awhile, I contacted Amazon and they quickly sent another one. Amazon is great to deal with!

Took it out of the package and initially thought the case looked a little cheap, but I think that’s because the finish was done so nicely that the sheen made it look fake. anyway, I didn’t buy it for the case…. The tool itself is quite well made; for instance I beat the scotch eye through a 10” piece of Pressure Treated 2x6 with a mini sledge hammer, while that process added some slight character marks, it otherwise is in great condition considering the beating it took. Found out afterwards that the other wrap it came with is to put over the screw handle when beating it so your hand doesn’t hate you afterwards. Pretty decent. It will work better with a more similar size piece of wood to your peg size, but I wanted to test this before needing it. It works.

It takes a lot of hard work to bore out a log.I recommend one from the top and then 3-4 holes in the sides to give enough airflow to start a fire in the middle. After using it one these two logs we already have some spots showing but it seems to still be sharp. Will update back if we see the corrosion affects the performance.

I really enjoyed it and I loved the case and all but after 3 or 4 time of doing it in semi deep hole the end broke off in the wood It was somehow fun to use you could just sit the making stuff with this thing all day and just wouldn’t get bored of it

After reading many reviews I went with this product. The first thing I did was sharpen the pilot threads (super easy presuming you have a tiny file) and went out and made a bushcraft hammer.The auger is simple to use, easy to find branches that fit as handles (or make one fit by shaving it down), and the slow crunch of the auger drilling through wood is very satisfying. This will become a regular piece of back country gear due to the versatility of things you can craft with it.
