Ok razor for the cost.
As a former triple blade cartridge user for 25+ years I decided I wanted to try out more vintage ways of shaving. After using DE safty razors for a few months and really liking them I decided to try out straight razor/cut throats. I bought this razor to try out the world of cut throat razors. I am still getting used to using this style razor and can say that I need more practice with this technique. I give this item a 4 star review mostly because removing and installing a new blade can be slightly difficult. The construction of the razor is very solid and the cost is very nice. The included blades seem to be of good quality and give me a nice shave on the right side of my face. The left side not so much but that's definitely me and not the blades or razors fault. I just need more practice with this unit but I still believe it deserves a 4 star rating. I do recommend it for anyone new to the world of cut throats who doesn't want to spend a lot on to try out one of the more older forms of shaving.

Impressed and enjoyable
The product: it’s great! Holds the blade in place and has no play. Very sturdy.Straight edge razors: I was always worried it would be a blood bath. When I received the razor I practiced on my hand and arm. I was patient. No problems. I moved onto my cheek and lined my beard up. Onto the neck, found this a bit harder cause of the angles, but with patience - went pretty well. If you were like me and worried about cutting yourself excessively don’t be. Just be patient. I actually found the process extremely enjoyable. My skin: I have really sensitive skin and have tried everything for 5 blades, to a safety razor and feel that this option is the best. The main difference between this and a safety razor is I have a lot more control. Where I would be dragging more blade than necessary across my skin to get into a corner, with this I’m just in the corner with as much or as little blade as I need.Cost: After you buy the straight edge, blades are $0.08. Being that I have sensitive skin I can afford a new blade every time.If your patient, you’ll be fine.

Must have
Very sharp, be careful. I like to shave my peach fuzz on my face every month or so and this works great. It’s very sharp. It gets the job done. it’s sleek and compact.

Great for the price, works well
I ordered this ~2 years ago and it has held up well. It takes getting used to holding and shaving with it, but it works well when used correctly [go with the grain, cut at an angle, etc]. One nitpick is the clip that holds the two halves together needs to be bent correctly for it to keep the two halves together, otherwise it gets looser over time, the clip slips off and the two halves can open up a bit, loosening the blade. This happened to me once, but bending the clip slightly like in the third picture prevents this.10/10 would use again.

Good razor.
I bought this one knowing I could return it if I didn't like it. Guess what? Amazon won't ever get this razor back. It is wonderful to shave with. I recommend this razor, and I recommend using ARKO's cream barber soap. You will get a clean shave without razor burn.

I'll try to help you with an honest review.
Okay, I'm 55 years old, and I've Shaved through the years with electrics, disposables, cartridge razors, you name it. None are good. They either clog, are a pain to clean, and most are incredibly expensive in the long run.A few years ago I switched to a double-edge safety razor. I switched because of cost, and that research shows that the double-edge is easier to clean and gives a better shave. I absolutely love the double-edge razor, and a nice, close, smooth shave. In the interest of getting an even closer shave, I started researching the straight razor. It's the closest shave possible, plus there is the cool, nostalgia factor. That, and I get to brag that I'm a fearless, death-defying manly man. Alright, I'm not really into bragging but I hope I gave you a chuckle. I just love the old ways, and a simple life.I've read many of the reviews on this product. The main complaints seem to be rust, the blades, and balance. Here are my observations.Rust. Pretty much a no-brainer. Clean it after use. Remove the blade carefully, rinse and dry everything with tissue, and let it air dry for a while. Rub it with mineral oil once in a while and you should be good.Respect this thing! Don't get cocky! Don't leave it or the blades where kids can get them! Don't handle the edge of the blade. I've never cut myself handling these or double-edge blades. Use your head! Go slow.Balance. Yes, it could be better. It's not horrible, just pay attention and go slow. Pay attention to the angle, and use basically NO PRESSURE. Let the weight of the razor do the work. The blades. They're very sharp and do a good job. They're not my favorites, Astra blades are my favorite, they just work for me. I'm hoping I can split the Astras and use them, but if that doesn't work the Derbys are fine.In the end, my first shave with a straight edge was very cool and I got a good shave. I was very patient, used a very soft touch, kept my skin lubricated and pulled tight. I did get one small cut and a couple small nicks, but no worse than my initial transition to the double-edge.I'd recommend buying the cheap Chinese copy of the Mercur adjustable double-edge razor which is available on Amazon. Start with it closed to the most narrow. Use the double-edge, opening it wider and wider as your skills improve. When you can shave with it wide open you'll be very close to the straight edge experience because so much of the blade will be exposed. When you master that, transition to the straight edge. You will already have the light touch and angle required for the straight edge.Be patient. You are a man, and you will develop the skills in time. Relax. You've got nothing to prove to anyone.I hope this helps. God bless.
