These have potential....
I make my living on a lathe so I’m picky about my gouges. These work very well and they are a good value. I was hoping to use these as bottom feeders but they didn’t work as well as I would have liked. After that experiment I ground them both to my preferred bowl gouge geometry and they are doing just fine.So why knock off a star? This is me being petty.... the flute is actually too long. On the surface this seems like a good thing because it will last longer through many more sharpenings. In reality, the flute is so long that it nearly reaches the handle and that makes the gouge flex more than it should. When hogging out material, I take huge passes and the shaft flexes and jumps a bit. It just isn’t as rigid as it needs to be for heavy work. The little gouge in the two pack is especially bendy. If you hang the tool over the tool rest more than a couple inches to get to a hard to reach spot, it will chatter due to flex in the steel.Lastly, based on the cryo technology touted in the description, I was hoping for the edge to last a little longer than a standard M2 steel tool. I have not found that to be the case. These are good tools but didn’t quite live up to my expectations. YMMV...

Not as good as the non- cryo hurricane gouge
It’s ok.I’m comparing it to the regular 1/2 inch hurricane bowl gouge, which Is great.I used them side by side for two weeks of turning, and I noticed absolutely no difference in the frequency of sharpening. I definitely prefer the regular bowl gouge to the cryo one; it has a better flute design that provides better control and more aggressive cuts, even with identical sharpening angles. The cryo one has a longer bar with more lifespan, but that’s the only positive that I can see.

AMAZINGLY SHARP AND EQUALLY DURABLE!!!
these gouges are simply amazing. i was a bit skeptical at first, but i figured that the price was so good that they'd be worth it even if they were just "ok" tools. i own Thompson bowl gouges as well as Carter and Son and i would say that these are easily right up there with them. they take a razor sharp edge and hold that edge for a LOOOOOONG time! great job, Hurricane, for teaming up with Crown Tools to develop a top quality set of tools that are still affordable to the everyman. i mean, i essentially got two high end gouges for the price of one!!!!!

Better than the rest.
Fantastic tools. Great Steel, great price. These stay shap just as long as the other more expensive guys. Time for some of these other manufacturers to start dropping their prices a bit, or at least have a sale every now and then.
