TrangiaGel Burner - Large, Silver

If I'm honest, I feel this is a little expensive for what is ultimately just a tin with a lid.Of course, it's design is by and for Trangia, but what you do get is a fuel box compatible for any Trangia-like products also. I have a little Firebox Nano X-case, which is designed to house a Trangia spirit burner. With this tin, I can now add a solid fuel burner knowing it fits perfectly. It's leak proof and lightweight, making it a functional and perfect companion for my Firebox Nano.

I got this to add to my Trangia set up, my thinking was that the use of gel fuels was safer than the traditional meths etc and it is. As I am starting to take my 5 year old out on day trips and the fear of him knocking over a meths burner was beyond comprehension for me. When I am on my own, it's back to the traditional burner and meths.I have tried this with BCB Fire Dragon gel and it worked well, the Dragon fuel is excellent although a more expensive than meths. I have not tried this with the BCB Fire Dragon solid fuel blocks although they will fit with out the need to cut them up smaller but I am sure that they will work just fine.Overall, this is just what I needed and I feel safer using it with the wee man running about than the meths burner.

Much lighter than the spirit burner. The gel is also much lighter to pack and travel with. This also burns with less sooty deposit on the underside of the Trangia Pans. There is no way to control the heat once the gel is lit. There is no simmer ring that is on the spirit burner. Once the gel has been used the burner cools down quickly and cleaning the residue out is very easy. Will probably use this over the spirit burner now.

I have used this Gel Burner for approx. 10 camps and I have to say it has been average overall. As a gel burner its perfectly fine, no issues when used. Cleaning the burner was difficult as I found, even with different brands of gel, it left behind residue and needed scrapped off. Over time I noticed the container became quite easy to bent out of shape.Overall its fine to use, and I have to say I much prefer gel to spirits for fuel, but the quality is not as high as you would expect for Trangia

What can I say? It's a tin for burning gel and does that very well. And it fits in the hole for the spiritburner in the Trangia.
