Tetra safe start
As far as I can tell it helps the tank, I've been using it to help condition water after partial water changes for nitrates. I haven't tried to 'seed' an uncycled tank with it, so don't know how effective that would be.My only complaint is, it should have quantity measurements in both European units as well as American. Just for those who don't know an American gallon is slightly smaller - (30 American gallons equals 25 British gallons). A litre is the same in whichever country!I recommend it for the upkeep of a healthy cycled tank.

Works Very Well
I have been using this product for over ten years, and have started at least five aquariums from scratch using it. There is a persistent myth that Seachem Prime water conditioner will starve the beneficial bacteria in SafeStart; this is totally false. Prime converts ammonia NH3 into ammonium NH4+. Both ammonia and ammonium are food for the beneficial bacteria in Tetra SafeStart.I just finished setting up a 25-gallon zebrafish aquarium using Tetra Safestart. I used a new aquarium, new filter and media, and new gravel. Here are the steps I took.1. I set up the tank, filled it with 75-degree F water, started the heater and filter and let it run for an hour.2. I dechlorinated with 1 teaspoon of Seachem Prime (double dose for that volume of water)3. I went to the fish store and bought my fish the same day.4. I acclimated the fish to the tank by floating the bag, then released the fish into the aquarium.5. I took my three bottles of Tetra SafeStart (3.38 oz. each) and shook them for a timed two minutes. Shaking Tetra SafeStart vigorously is very important. It is also important that the date on the sticker on the bottom of the bottle is at least ten months in the future, preferably a year or more. The fresher the SafeStart is, the better it will work.6. I poured the Tetra SafeStart into the aquarium.7. I fed the fish sparingly each day.8. I used a test kit to test ammonia levels each day. It never rose above .259. After two weeks, my water parameters were Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 NitrAte: 5-10If ammonia goes too high when cycling, it is okay to add Seachem Prime to detoxify it. If I want to reduce ammonia during cycling, I turn off the filters and do a water-only water change, which means dipping water out of tank with a pitcher and not vacuuming gravel or cleaning filter. The bacteria do not float around in the water after a day or two. They colonize filter media and the gravel, so it's okay to replace water dipped from the tank. Make sure to dechlorinate replacement water.Tetra SafeStart works very well to quickly establish a biofilter in an aquarium as long as the Tetra Safestart has not been exposed to temperature extremes or gotten too close to its expiration date.Seachem Prime can be used at the very same time as Tetra Safestart and the bacteria will thrive.

Great Product!
Review for Tetra Safe Start PlusIf you don’t have to read my whole review, I will simply state:Great Product! Does what it says it will do. Please note this will not “instantly cycle” an aquarium, but will add beneficial bacteria that will assist and accelerate the process.I read many reviews before purchasing, and some reviewer(s) comments were so in depth and extremely helpful, I wished to add my experience and hopefully someone may find this useful in the future.I wanted to give an honest review of Tetra Safe Start Plus. I have read many negatives to biological additives for aquariums, but I decided why not, it couldn’t hurt and any little help would be useful.I was performing a Fishless Cycle on a freshwater (Cichlid tank) for the first time in my life (lots of experience with Aquariums, mostly Saltwater).I followed basics, added Ammonia to about 4ppm and waited for a decline so I could dose again. After 10 days I was getting no drop in ammonia and began to get impatient.I added a full dose of Tetra Safe Start Plus to my 75 gallon tank. The very next day I began to see ammonia drop. I tested ammonia daily and re-dosed with ammonia to bring it back up to 4ppm. At first I was dosing every other day, by the end of the week I was dosing every day. BUT I had no Nitrite reading yet. I performed a 40% water change and re-dosed with Tetra Safe Start Plus (only the recommended dosing for the water replaced). I also continued to dose with ammonia. The next day I had ammonia readings along with Nitrite (and a small Nitrate reading). As the week progressed I continued to test the water daily (and dose with ammonia daily). After one (1) week the tank was converting all readings back to 0 after 24 hours!! Tank cycled, ready for fish!!In conclusion, dosed with Ammonia (4ppm) and waited 10 days, added full dose Tetra Safe Start Plus (and tested water daily until ammonia began to drop), added ammonia to maintain 4ppm until it was converting ammonia to 0 in about 48 hours (day 16-18 of cycle). Performed 40% water change, re-dosed with Tetra Safe Start Plus (only recommended dosing per water change). Continued adding ammonia daily and testing daily until Ammonia, Nitrite was converting within 24 hours (day 21). I continued dosing with ammonia and testing water for another few days. Tank cycled! Fish added on day 28!Thank you for time reading this, hope someone finds it helpful.
