Durable, supportive...heavy?
If you are tired of wearing out your shoes, plopping down $100 every 8 months for a new pair, and struggle to find the right balance of durability and support, might I suggest the 993.I stopped into my New Balance store solely because I desired a shoe made in the USA. I explained to the clerk that I have flat, bony, narrow feet, severely pronate, and I wanted a shoe that would last a long time. It came down to the 993 and one other shoe, but there wasn't much of a contest.Secondly, a word about the reviewer - I only wore these to my gym (for almost 2 years!), and the occasional jog. It wasn't until after I wore them out that I ran my first half-marathon, so I cannot speak to how many miles these would be good for.Design - These aren't as flashy and stylish as mainstream running shoes; there's a throwback element to them that take them more to the "dad-shoe" end of the spectrum, but still not bad. Just don't expect anyone to notice your new kicks when you arrive to aerobics. At least the gray color hides dirt and discoloration after months of use. Besides, you might check out some optional seasonal colors in New Balance Men's M498 Heritage Classic Sneaker , part of the New Balance Heritage Classic collection.Support - these are undoubtedly the most well-built shoe I've ever used. After two years, they still feel solid when I pick them up. Others have complained that they might be a tad on the heavy side, but I found no real impedement to my exercise.Breathability - I'd rate a 5 out of 10. The toe shovel has a mesh exterior, but it's only found above several layers of over inputs, so it's not the most breathable.durability - I used them for nearly 2 years. Nuff said.A few words of note. First, I'm meticulous about shoe care, and I used cedar shoetrees inside them after every use, to soak up sweat and keep the shoe's form. Secondly, use shoe inserts for added cushioning. I recommend the Powerstep Pinnacle Orthotic Insert (M 10-10 1/2 W 12-12 1/2) . It's better than using the factory insert. Third, I suggest trying a pair on in a store. As noted above, there are a variety of colors as part of the Heritage Classic collection, and I bought a second pair online after this one, and they didn't feel as solid as this first pair. Be mindful of where and how you're buying them.

New Balance Men's MR993 Running Shoe
I was looking for an American made sneaker, which is getting increasingly difficult each year. Most shoes literally fall apart in no time at all if worn daily. The soles will wear through from very minimal use and from the start have virtually no foot support making them not practical for actual use. While such low end shoes may appear cheaper, you need to constantly buy new shoes frequently meaning actually you pay much more total buying low quality ones. Would you rather pay $50 every 6 months having low end shoes all the time, or $100 once every 3-4 years? Actually these days a lot of the low quality shoes can run into the hundreds of dollars and are just marketing. It's a huge cost savings buying the higher quality shoe. The American made New Balance sneakers have always been terrific shoes.Note even with New Balance which is 1 of the last shoe companies producing in the US, the majority of their shoes are also made overseas and those ones are a substantially lower quality. But if you go to their website they make it easy to differentiate to find the ones made in the US. They have a nice classification of 3 main types: ones made 100% abroad, ones (partially) assembled in the US, and ones made mostly in the US (with a some materials from abroad). The jumps in quality between the 3 groups is huge. If you are looking for a great quality sneaker I very highly recommend New Balance. Just ensure you get the American made versions. Whether or not you are explicitly trying to buy Made in USA, the quality and the long term cost is a huge benefit of getting the Made in USA versions in this case. There's no reason to blindly accept buying garbage, when you can buy something better.

Excellent quality and made in America
I see three big positives:1. They are very durable. I am a relatively big runner (190 pounds) who puts in 40-60 miles a week year-round on a 41 year old body. I can easily get at least 500 miles out of these shoes while running (more if it is winter and I am on the treadmill). I can then use them for kicking around. I wore a pair with 450 miles on them on a two week trip to China and they felt great the whole time, even with a 6 mile walk on a tough stretch of the Great Wall.2. They fit great and are comfortable right out of the box. They have a big toe box and fit pretty true to size. You can pull these right out of the box and run 10 miles without worry of blisters or sore joints (unless they are not the right size or are way out of shape). My feet measure a dead-on 11 and I buy 11.5 in these because when running you don't want your toes hitting the end of the shoe, especially on downhill stretches.3. They are made in the United States. Since I live in the USA, I like buying things that are made here to support American workers and finding shoes made in the USA is pretty tough. Not every NB model is made in the USA. This one is!I have one concern: the cost on these have gone up significantly since I started buying them a year ago. The first pair was $90, my second pair was $105, my third pair was $113 and now they want $130 for my size. Hopefully this means more money for the American workers????These are great shoes if you want to log some long miles and are willing to spend over $100 for running shoes!

running shoeds reviewe
2 detailes that made me buy these shoes were, that I am wearing similar product ( new balance 470), right size and width. Additional reason was colour, because they fit almost to every event and dresscode ( opera, theatre and black tie are special category).Grip and performance are great.Few minutes after putting them on, you have the feeling that you're barefooted ( lightweight and comfort ).Although I am heavyweight they can keep up with me.

New Balance Running Shoes
An excellent product. I bought my first pair of New Balance running shoes in 1981 when Chris Brasher returned from running in the New York marathon and gave his report on them. I have used them ever since. They are a most comfortable shoe and, in my opinion, cannot be beaten.

New Balance running shoes
Arrived promptly and were just what I wanted with the width fitting. As an aside I wanted '2Es' and the internet confirmation said EE EE. I wondered if this would be 2e but it was.July 2011: sole of shoe has become soft. This after only moderate use.
