India Tree Silver Dragees

I paid $22. for this little container of silver dragees, and it was a mistake. Sold as being 4mm, they came in a variety of non-uniform sizes (the photo shows the variations from the bottle). They also weren't smooth and classy looking. Most resembled hammered (or pounded) balls; almost as if they had been wrapped in tin foil. Many had no silver on them, or the silver came off when you touched them. Do NOT buy these if you are looking for a smooth, uniformly-sized decoration. This product is also waaay overpriced!

I have found that most brands of Dragees are not sized appropriately, but the 4mm India Tree brand has been, for the most part, but it still has 3mm sized ones as well in the same bottle. The bottle I received was not sealed in anyway, which it should have been as most are these days to be tamper proof. They did not appear to have plastic inside and seem to be sugar based. These are closer in size to those I used to buy in the supermarket, but can not find so far here in the Salt Lake Valley area.

I love how pretty these look when used on cakes. There is just one thing i noted. when i used this on chocolate ganache after about an hour the silver had started to spread so if these are not for consumption then maybe better not to use on chocolate ganache or buttercreams. They would be better on fondants imo. I did taste them and they just tasted like sugar to me.

The hard-to-find nature of this item means they can charge quite a bit for it. However, it's the real thing and supply and demand are what they are. Thank goodness it was Prime eligible.

I grew up with them being fairly common, and love using them for my holiday baking, but the ones on the market now are dull in comparison and just doesn't have the right shine... but these are the real deal. You get a good sized amount in the container, so it's definitely worth the price. I was cutting it close for the holidays, but they arrived in record time.

but sooooooooooooooo expensive for that small jar and sadly, if the Dragees get even a tiny bit moist, the silver color comes right off

Really beautiful dragees, I've been looking for some for awhile. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it seemed to have a variety of sizes, some were quite large and a few others very small. The majority were the correct size but I had to sort through then before decorating to ensure continuity. On the bright side, I now have some smaller ones for cookies!

I remember dragees from my childhood, but these have a much better texture. Instead of the mini jawbreakers I remember, these provided a nice satisfying crunch that I would describe as being more like the texture of a miniature M&M Peanut (minus the peanut, of course). Plus, they look every bit as beautiful as I remembered--brilliant, shining silver. A really gorgeous, classy touch for decorating iced cakes, cookies and cupcakes.
