Steve McCurry: The Unguarded Moment

Steve's brilliant moments
Had the chance to see Steve's works at an exhibition he had, and was totally blown away by his works. One of his fortes is in capturing shots of people - however,to term his works as portraiture is an understatement. Steve sees into the heart and the character of the person or people he shoots, and his photos are composed in exactly the right way to bring out the person's character in the strongest possible way. Be it a close up emphasizing the lines borne of years of work on a farmer's sun baked face, or a shot of a boy holding a french loaf in front of a pushcart selling bread, the shots are evocative and tells the viewer a story - or rather, it leads the viewer into asking more questions on the people in the photos. Evocative, and a must read for photographers.

McCurry - The Unguarded Moment
This is not a book of "how to". He provides no tips or techniques here.It is simply a book of magnificent photographs. One can gaze upon each and every single photo, and just wonder in awe of McCurry's talent. The photos are mezmerizing, and I, for one, cannot keep from going back to the amazing photos in his book week after week. The book is somewhat expensive, but if it does not "break your bank", then you will find it worth every penny.

While that is a fantastic photograph, I think his other work are way ...
Steve McCurry, known for his famous afghan girl image. While that is a fantastic photograph, I think his other work are way better and under appreciated. Hes famous and known for his portraits but I love his photo journalistic pictures more. There is way more to his work than afghan girl. This book is represents that.

Typical Steve McCurry
Another excellent collection of photos from the master Steve McCurry. Yes, it's 'typical McCurry', the same as he's been doing for decades now -- but that's so phenomenally perceptive and technically excellent that one can only hope he keeps it up! Mostly photos from southern Asia (India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh), East Asia, and Africa. Some from more familiar places (France, Croatia). All just excellent. Book is large format, well produced. Sits prominently on our coffee table.

Steve McCurry: The Unguarded Moment
Excellent photography! I actually purchased it because I liked the photo on the cover. If I remember correctly, it would have cost in the thousands. At that price, the book was inexpensive!!! People often pick it up from my coffee table; and after perusing it, indicate to me how much they enjoyed it

Typical Steve McCurry...
Mesmerising, excellent...I lived in India for four years, and there are so many things in India that you cannot describe them in words. The people, traditions, religions, etc... You will need to see it with your own eyes to believe it. I think Steve McCurry brings India to your living room in this book.

Great images with deep feeling
I very much enjoyed Steve McCurry's images in this book. Many of the images show a depth of feeling that's beyond normal happy faces in many others photos.BTW, I found it much cheaper to buy used book. I bought a used in excellent condition and it is almost like new.

Best photography book I own
Plain and simple, I own several photography books from famous photographers, a nice collection of National Geographic magazines, and I've worked as a photographer myself (mostly doing agency books for amateur and intermediate models, nightlife/events photography, and a few weddings with a photographer friend) and this is the best photography book I own and I've ever seen.If you visit Steve McCurry's website you'll see he has lots of pictures there and there's not a single one that is short of great, I honestly consider him the best photographer in the world (or at least in his style), and The Unguarded Moment is one of those books so good that I'd gladly pay twice or three times it's price because of the quality of the pictures.I apologize if I sound like a fanboy, I'm certainly not that kind of person, but all I've said before is my honest opinion about this wonderful piece of art book.If you like photography this is a must buy.

Excellent
Steve MC Curry's best to date in my opinion -- it may be because of the size of the book which reveals more of the picture but it is a vivid selection of portraits and scenes which reveal a 'true feel' -- when photographs capture a 'feeling' that makes you think you could be 'there' you know how good they are- highly recommendJ Cheshire

Awesome but missing the americas
I just wish there had been a better mix of people from all over the world - nothing from north, central or south america, nor australia. But hey it is not less powerful nor beautiful. The pictures speak a million words.

Steve McCurry - photography as brilliant social document.
Moving insight into other cultures, mr McCurry does it like no other. The large format is excellent, one is tempted to take the book apart and frame each photo.
