Impressive for what it does
Longtime BB user that went from a BB 9700 Torch to an iPhone 4, and like other BB users new to iPhone I'm not willing to invest 6-12 months figuring out how to type reasonably efficiently on smooth glass. After only 3 or 4 days of trying to type out legible emails, now I understand why there are so many 'dumb autocorrect' jokes floating around. It's simply too much to ask for iOS to know what we want to convey as far as typographical errors on the smooth screen.Yes this case makes the iPhone thick (it is almost a full 20mm with the iPhone in it), and I will have to look around for a suitable leather pouch / case for it (it would have been better if it had a clip for me to use on my belt, but that's just my preference), but the slider mechanism is smooth enough (not as silky 'solid' as the Torch but nice nonetheless). Being able to crank out emails on a real keyboard is a joy - much more productive when I can give a comprehensive answer to a simple email request without resorting to one more thing I've got to take care of when I'm back at the office. (I'm a field employee so having the ability to type on the go is very important.) There is some adjustment needed to the keyboard layout, I miss the right shift-key as well as the spacebar could be a tad longer as I feel it doesn't extend far enough to the right, but it is nice to have a full complement of symbols accessed through cmd-key combinations, and the symbols are clearly marked, unlike the BB where a 'sym' key took you to another full screen to tap. For someone who uses symbols like %, & and = with some regularity (who doesn't?) this is very helpful to have.I was tempted by purchasing from another vendor (not on Amazon) who had their own twist-style keyboard, but I like the slider function better, even though it is landscape orientation compared to my prior experiences with Blackberries (I've lost count how many BB's I've had, must have been at least five starting out with a black-and-white email-only unit back in the dark ages of 2002 or so.) Playing around with the iOS apps now I see (belatedly) what all the fuss is about, from the consumer perspective, and now I can rightly say that this keyboard makes the iPhone useful for getting work done on the smartphone itself. (That is, until speech-to-text applications get a huge advance in capability and accuracy making the keyboard obsolete, which may take several more years...)It's a keeper, and one I'd recommend.Edit:I found this leather case: Black Horizontal Leather Pouch for Sidekick 2 3 LX. [...] on Amazon, and while it is about 1/4-inch longer than the iPhone/Nuu Minikeyboard unit, it is the perfect depth. Strong magnetic flap and nice strong 'clip' that doesn't fall off my belt. (Okay I'm used to having something hang off my belt as an old-timer BlackBerry user.)

Not perfect, but kept me from selling my iPhone!
Ever since going from my LG EnV2 to an iPhone, I have been constantly aggravated by the lack of physical keyboard and aggressive auto-correct. I was contemplating a new smartphone with a built in keyboard but decided to give this product a try first. My first impression was how big this 'case' is. I feel like I'm carrying a VHS tape in my pocket (it's not quite that bad), but this case makes your iPhone about 2.5x as thick. It also removes the slick texture from the back of your phone, so if you liked that for whatever reason take that into consideration. However, it feels sturdy and the sliding mechanism is quite solid. This keyboard connects to your phone via BlueTooth, which means that it contains its own battery and does occasionally need to be charged via USB Micro B. I would estimate you get 1-2 weeks of heavy use before needing a charge. There is a green/red LED to let you know how it's doing. The keyboard feel is decent, but not great. I would rate it a 3/5, but compared to the alternatives (BoxWave) it's the best you'll get. The button placement is pretty good, and it's a relief to have a normal spacebar. However, the spacebar does not press easily in its center and prefers to be touched from the left or the right side. The buttons as a whole are a bit stiff and not 100% independent (very slightly mushy). The EnV2 keyboard was much better -- keys were snappy and required the right amount of pressure.I'm a bit surprised that they did not put numbers on their own row because I can see room for them. As a result, the alternative symbols (!@#$%^&(), etc.) are not placed where you'd anticipate. There are also special buttons for ?!/@ in unusual places, which is both thoughtful and annoying simultaneously.I have read many complaints about the integration of shift and function keys with other keyboards. On this they work as they should - one press engages shift or function for one key press, and a double-press locks the shift or function key until you press it again. They also have LED's for shift and function so you know which one is engaged. If you are using the keyboard at night, there is an odd delay between your first button presses and the keyboard backlight. Sometimes it's quick and other times it can take as long as 5 seconds to turn on.Integration with iOS is pretty good but not perfect. You will immediately appreciate the additional screen space for texting and writing emails. However, certain apps are not built with a keyboard in mind (like Amazon or REI) so the design breaks slightly when searching and in other menus. If you can handle the bulk, I highly recommend this case to people who hate auto-correct as much as I do!
