There are plenty of books on the market about every belief system on the planet. No matter how much I’m interested in the topic, most of the books on it put me to sleep, but I enjoyed this book from the first page. It covers lots of information about Norse mythology in a way that’s really engaging. It doesn’t just retell the stories. The author challenges us to think about what might have motivated the gods to do what they did, by sharing her own views on the subject. I also appreciated that the author didn’t just stick to discussing the most famous gods. She talks about Odin, Thor, Heimdall, and other well-known gods and goddesses. She also talked about some that are not known well in modern times like the goddesses Var and Vor, and the gods Ullr and Vidar.The way she described the creation of the cosmos, according to the Old Norse, really brought the story to life in a way that most books on the subject couldn’t touch. It was like a movie playing out in front of my eyes. This is a great book for people curious about Norse paganism and mythology as well as those that are new followers of this pagan religion.

This is a well written, well researched book. I had my doubts going into it, but it didn't take long to realize this had a lot of good information. This is going into my go to library for all of my norse and runic information. I was quite impressed with the amount of good information Emma was able to put together for this. Very informative, especially for what a short and easy read it was. It was straight into the point, not boring or dry, or meandering, but still gave a very comprehensive overview of all of the things that I was seeking to learn about.

This book is very interesting, well thought out and very informative. The styleof writing pulls you in from the first chapter, and continues throughout the remaing pages. This is the no d of Norse mythology nook I have always wanted. It's like a dictionary of all you need to know. These lines at the start already grabbed me "There are deeper realities than ours. Trees speak to each other in the silence of the forest in secret tongues. The dead hold long talks in the solitude of their graves." Indeed there are. Very concise and we'll written with a few illustrations to help piece together the whole thing including rune symbols. A fun an illuminating read.

After reading many books on the same subject and as an avid practitioner of Nordic magick it was refreshing to read something that is so clear and concise. The breadth of related topics covered in the book was awesome too. Recommended reading!
