The Incredible Years

I've found this book really helpful with our toddler. The advice is excellent, evidence based and really works. For example we have used ignoring or withdrawing attention (as recommended in the book) to manage lots of the behaviour that was tricky and it works really well. Its great that the book takes you through different ages, and tells you what your child can and cannot understand at different ages - e.g. there's no point using discipline in a way that your child can't understand because they're too young or not developmentally ready. I've given copies to friends and regularly recommend it.

This book will change the way you are with your child forever! So much insight into child development and suggestions on how to cope with challenging behaviour, it just makes life as a parent more fun and easier to deal with. Since reading The Incredible Years I am a calmer, better parent and my little boy's challenging behaviour has improved so much. I understand more about how he thinks, how he sees the world and interacts with it. There is less shouting and more listening and cooperation in our house these days, I thoroughly recommend reading this book!

Good for dipping into. Check milestones. Reminds you what they should be doing. A bit old-fashioned.

This book is great it give a lot of insight in how connect with my son, there is a very big gap between my older kids and the youngest and I had to relearn and make changes in the way I brought up my two older children who are in their late twentys and this book have really good skill to do so

This is so brilliant.. I went on a course provided by our local sure start centre and this has been an invaluable top up since. Great methods of behaviour modification for parents and their children. Worked a treat for our family with a pretty wild 3 year old ( now a very tame 5 year old!!!) recommend very highly and still refer to it.

Still reading that book. Have three kids and still learning to understand them :)

One of the staple evidence based parenting guides for parents of younger children. This is an accessible and sensible guide to how to encourage positive behaviour and discourage negative behaviour to form a better relationship with your child. I think every parent should read it.
