Tasty - makes quick side dishes easy as well
One of my sons is from Ethiopia and we love the cuisine. This spice mix is very tasty, and while I do use it in main dishes, I have found that it's great to use when I want to whip up a quick and flavorful side dish, such as a cold salad of white beans, tomatoes, and chick peas for example. Makes a delicious change from the usual (olive oil, a bit of sea salt, and pepper). It's definitely more flavorful than hot, which makes it approachable for people who can't take the heat of a mitmita for example. I will definitely order more of this when I run out.The review asked me to rate "Thickness" and "Warmth", which don't really make sense for a dry spice mix, but I gave them 5 stars anyway.

Very Very Tasty
Bought this spice blend on a whim after recently trying out Ethiopian food (and loving it). The flavor was excellent. The level of heat was just right as well. I tried it on pan cooked chicken with a little olive oil for cooking. Turned out great, the whole family enjoyed it! My spouse said it reminded her more of a Indian dish we have had then the Ethiopian dish but thoroughly enjoyed it none the less. Made a large bath of chicken and I still have majority of the container left so I am please with this as well.

Delicious
I ordered this spice mix because I was looking for new flavors in my cooking. It tastes like a curry, but different from other curries I've had. I use a generous amount on sautéed vegetables or potatoes. I think it's very delicious. It has some spice but not an excessive amount. There is no salt added. I only gave it 4 stars because I ordered the 4.8 ounce and received the 2.4 ounce. It's too bad because it's so good that it won't last very long.

Sweet and Spicy
I decided to buy this ketchup on a whim. I recently tried a German curry ketchup and decided that I like the flavor of sweet tomato flavor blended with a touch of spice. This ketchup sounded like a good alternative. It didn't disappoint! The flavor is a little spicier than the other ketchup I tried, but it is still pretty moderate. (I like a little heat and frequently leave the seeds in when I cook with chilies.)I also like that the listed ingredients are all ingredients that I use when I cook. They use sugar instead of corn syrup. I would actually prefer less sugar since tomatoes are already very sweet, but most kinds of ketchup include a sweetener of some kind.Overall, I rate this one highly because I like the balance of sweetness and spice.

Buy it
Amazing. Spicy and doesn’t interfere with existing flavor. Perfect addition to most dishes even if not Ethiopian or African period. Versatile and worth the money

A Spice Blend Unlike Any Other
I used this to cook Somali food and was not disappointed. Despite the fact that many of the ingredients can be found in other spice blends, to my palate there is nothing like Xawa'ash. I have cooked food from all over the world and have explored the dishes of many cultures in all my years of cooking yet using this blend gave me a taste sensation that I have never before experienced. I highly recommend this stuff!

Great if you don’t want to make your own
I purchased this to make some recipes from the Bibi’s kitchen cookbook. Creating this seasoning from scratch was honestly a little more work than I wanted to put into it.While I can’t comment on whether the flavor is authentic, I will say that we thought our meals turned out delicious.I will also say that had I realized I’d use so much of this (like 2 Tbsp per recipe) I would’ve purchased the larger size.

Ditch the Sriracha
Unlike sriracha, which has a rather one-dimensional garlic-and-vinegar accent, piri piri is traditionally made with sweet pimento peppers as well as spicy chiles, and often contains garlic as well as onions, occasionally some herbs, and usually a splash of lemon, vinegar, or whiskey, too. It also has a nice dose of oil, which helps the flavors bloom and contributes a luscious texture.Origins: It is a small member of the Capsicum Genus. It grows in Angola, Uganda, Malawi, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, The tropical forests of South Sudan and the highlands of Ethiopia. It was brought to Goa India by the Portuguese.epicurious & wikipedia
