it's an awesome rice cooker
Yeah, it's an awesome rice cooker, zojirushi is definitely the brand to go to for rice cookers. It's easy to cook the rice, even if it takes some experimenting with amount of salt and water as well as rinsing and soaking to get it perfect. It also had to do with me never trying out japanese rice, I find it good when sticky but not when it's too sticky. I found the best way to do it was to follow the "normal" japanese way where you rinse and repeat A LOT until the water is pretty clear, then you pour out most of the water and "punch" the rise gently whereafter you rinse again(until the water is pretty much completely clear), followed by drying the japanese rice in a mesh sieve for 30-50 minutes followed by pouring it into the rice cooker with the marked amount of water, letting it soak for 1-2 hours before cooking it(I guess you could also let it soak outside, I might try that next time). Then you get somewhat fluffy rice with acceptable stickiness. You can also do as shown in the manual and just quickly rinse it a lot and then pour it into the rice cooker and letting it cook immediately without soaking, but I found the rice became VERY sticky, perhaps that's better for sushi. Japanese rice will never not be sticky(since it's made to be sticky), but you can control how sticky it is to some extent by how well you wash it. I might also try to lower the water level a little bit and see if I get a somewhat less sticky and harder rice. I'm also going to try cooking basmati and jasmine rice and see how well it handles it later on(some food is just better with the long grain non-sticky rice you get with basmati/jasmine rice), just remember that there are separate instructions for jasmine/basmati long grain rice with zojirushi rice cookers on their official website, try searching for it online. Going to try to mix some jasmine/basmati rice with japanese rice and try out the "mixed" setting, I heard that it'd make japanese rice less sticky. Oh, well, seems I gave a lot of my thoughts and some tips here, but that's fine I guess, it's relevant for the rice cooker. It's easy to clean and the nonstick coating works well. It might take a long time to cook rice(40-60 minutes) but that's acceptable considering you can fix it beforehand and just wait, or you can cook it early and use the "warming" function which keeps it warm and tasting fresh for up to around 12 hours, I tried it and it worked well, you could even cook the rice at morning and have it heated until you get home from work. The timer is great, you can place the rice into the rice cooker with the water 2-3 hours before dinner and set it for dinner time and it will make sure to finish at dinner time. Supposedly it also has settings for making porridge, cake(like sponge cake and cheese cake, that seems cool, maybe I'll try it sometime) and you can steam a lot of different food in it, so it's not limited to only rice of all kinds, definitely a plus. So, I love it... However, now to the reason that I wrote "but" in the title. It is a great rice cooker, but there are better ones out there. I kind of regret buying this one, I just did a shallow search and didn't care to look too deeply, I just knew I wanted a great rice cooker to start eating more rice. The best ones in my country cost around £80 and most go for around £30-50, it's not really a rice eating country and most homes don't have anything like a rice cooker. So, I saw this, looked at some reviews and saw how popular it was and expensive compared to its counterparts, how it was one of the undisputed best brands and this very one was probably the one with most positive reviews. HOWEVER... That's because it's one of the cheaper types(so many people have it and can afford it), it's not the cheapest, but it's actually the second cheapest with the microchip function, the other one being a £150 or so one. If you truly want to go all in and get the best rice, you want to go for the induction heated ones around £400-450 or so. It's almost double the price of this one, but that also means you get more quality and better rice for your money. It's supposedly far better, it's worth the extra money if you have it. This one is awesome and makes great rice, but why not go all the way if you're planning to eat a lot of rice? It's worth it any day. Sadly mine was already shipped when I noticed the better rice cookers, so I'll have to make do with this one.In a year or two I might buy the more expensive kind, I guess I'll have to see just how much rice I eat first though, otherwise it's not worth it. Hell, even if it's a year old, I could probably sell this one away for £150 as used goods since you can't find stuff like this here and you have to import it with extra charges and all.End evaluation: Great and lovely rice cooker, makes tasty rice when you do it correctly and is pretty easy to use with a lot of smart functions. If you have a budget of max around £230 or just don't eat that much rice, this is the way to go. If you plan to eat quite a bit of rice and cook stuff that involves it and have a higher budget, the £400+ ones are to prefer, there's no need to think about it, just don't make the same mistake as me and buy this without knowing that there are better ones available.

Easy to use
I was intimidated by this at first but its actually very to use once you go through the manual. I like the versatility of this rice cooker - I make oat groats, all types of rice (white/black/brown/pudding/sticky etc) and steam all sorts of vegetables in here. The steamer function is so handy and pretty quick to use. It's very expensive and I'm not sure it is worth the price, but I've never tried any other brand of rice cooker to compare. This version is not Japanese-made like the other models unfortunately, and I have heard that the quality isn't as good as a result. It's easy to use, makes cooking rice pretty effortless and cooks a variety of things, but nothing special.

Just perfect
It was a very nice surprise at Xmas. Its design is flawless and the rice is fluffy and evenly cooked. It works for steamed vegetables as well, but one needs to reduce the cooking time. So far I have only cooked sushi rice, mixed white/brown basmati and whole edamame. The rice was perfect every time, the edamame needed less cooking. It’s sings on start and finish, which is fun for the children. Still learning about its use. Highly recommend.

Smaller than expected
Whilst I cannot say anything negative about the product as we did not even attempt to use it, we returned it as it was smaller than expected.

The best rice cooker
I have this rice cooker for about 6 months now and it's amazing. I didn't write the review earlier intentionally, because I wanted to test the product first and see if it's going to meet my expectations. And guess what ... it totally does. That's my first rice cooker but I believe it's the best one. Zojirushi is really the higherst brand for such an appliance. It makes the rice perfect every time. You just need to wash it, measure it and turn on the cooker. And it will do it's job on its own. It's really a smart device. It even somehow measures how much rice you have put and how long it needs to be done. Now I have perfect and fluffy rice everytime, no matter of the type of the rice - white short grain, white long grain, brown rice - everything comes out amazingly delicious. The bowl is totally non stick, it's very good quality. I clean it very easily. I don't put my bowl in the dishwasher cause I'm scared that I might ruin it and want to keep it in perfect condition for longer. So I would recommend to do the same - it really takes no more than 5 minutes to clean all of the stuff from the rice cooker, so it's not too much hastle and waist of time. Hopefully it will last me for years, cause I really love it and for that price honestly it should last ages.
