Q: Do you have to use the auto setting or just turn on/off? Using for a wedding, afraid it won't be dark enough at 8:30pm

I keep mine on "on". The solar panel stores the energy during the day, and they automatically turn at dusk. However, if you have really cloudy days, they won't stay on as long. (Mine stay on into the wee hours.) These give off an ambient light, like fireflies. I put 8 strings in a tree, and it's beautiful!!

Q: Is it better to charge it in off mode?

I just let the sun charge it during the day. Once it was set up I just let it go all summer. It works so good I plan to use it for the holidays outside.

Q: How do you connect lights to solar panels?

The solar panel is permanently attached to the string of lights. Make sure it is in direct sunlight, they give you around a 6 to 10 foot lead of plain wire before the light so it makes them very easy to install.

Q: Can the lights be used in freezing weather?

Even here in Texas we've had freezing weather and all is well. Lights still light as bright as ever.
