this at times tedious exercise in devoted fandom can be mildly informative
Written with all the frenetic passion of a long, dry, scentless fart, this at times tedious exercise in devoted fandom can be mildly informative. There are many fan-penned books about KISS and it's important to consider that these books are really only of interest to equally obsessed fans. Curious readers outside this set will find very little of interest here, which is fine and to be expected, of course. I give the author all the credit in the world for following through on his fandom, especially commendable considering this is not Mr. Gill's only effort in this arena. Indeed, he's written several analyses regarding his and your favorite act.But what always undercuts these efforts, for this reader, anyway, and what ultimately undermines their authority are mistakes. Lots of them. Lots of dumb little mistakes which essentially render the work a death by a thousand cuts. I don't necessarily mean factual inaccuracies, either, as much of what's regurgitated here comes straight from the band themselves and are, as far as I can discern, most often accurate. No, the clunky prose and the (numerous) irritating spelling and syntax errors ultimately do this one in. This is even more frustrating in light of the fact that the author takes the time to thank those who supposedly proofread this thing in the introduction. Ultimately this serves to undermine the author's authority and underscores the fact that this is an amateur affair. There's some decent information here though, and the fact that it's based on testimony from an era of the band (we've all read countless times accounts of the band's inception and their ultimate rise to superstardom ) that is by and large under-exposed makes it of some interest to super fans who've otherwise read it all before. I bought one other from the same series, though given the results of this effort, I sort of regret it even before having read it.And regarding any future volumes? The author should get someone who can actually proofread. It'll do wonders for the finished product and it'll make the author seem way more credible. Because if anyone was actually paid to proofread here, that was robbery. If they did it out of kindness, that kindness was misdirected and ultimately hurt the final product.

Needed an editor BADLY.
Let me start by saying I really enjoy the book. It's definitely for fans looking for more detailed accounts of certain events. There is a LOT of stuff that even the most diehard's will not have known. That being said, the presentation of the material is awful. There are countless misspellings and even repeated sentences. It really makes it a difficult read. Too bad because the content is great.
