TOUGH, VERSATILE, WORTH IT!!
Wanted a “modern” ALICE pack and this was it!! You can slide an ALICE pack frame with kidney belt in there, detach the straps and reattach them to the frame and clip the pack hip belt around the frame and your ready to rock!! I am active duty military and i used this for a few training evolutions and it holds up!! I even had to carry an 81mm mortar can with dirt in it for a little over 3 miles without the frame. (It was a last minute decision so my squad didnt need two people to carry it by hand).Spec Ops does a horrible job in describing this great product. So am attaching a link that was a big help. https://youtu.be/knswlcQv3xw Note that the sternum strap can be lowered if you know what your doing and you may need to jerry rig the hip belt a little on the pack to make it work, see my pics. My buddies in the ALICE club have seen this and are now considering saving up for one now.

Great rucksack!
I originally bought this item because my issued ruck was VERY noisy (squeaky...sounded like spongebob's shoes every time I took a step). This pack was much better. Mine has survived 2 basic training cycles and a 22km "hike". I modified it a bit by adding a Pack Mule frame instead of a standard ALICE frame. I also para-corded the handles of the two together. This combo makes for a killer rucksack system...although a bit on the heavy side. I do like the "loading deck" and the built-in seat of that frame, however.I like it so much I'll be rigging up a lighter system with an internal frame soon, using the same ruck. This will be a true Recon Ruck for me once complete.

Spec ops pack
Great pack. If you like ALICE pack, you should be happy with Spec Ops recon ruck. Improved version of ALICE pack. Plastic quick release buckles replace metal buckles. Material is heavier duty. Carries well. It is worth the price. Like most military packs it is not as lightweight when paired with frame. But Spec Ops recon ruck is built for hard use.

Wow nice update to an old favorite
Expensive 😥 Works very well with new molle medium frame and fire force molle hip belt.

I am not sure if this is the real Spec Ops Recon Ruck Ultra or it is an older model.
Guys, I received this in my delivery of an order of a previously used Spec Ops Recon Ruck Ultra I bought from Amazon. It has no PALS webbing like the Spec Ops Recon Ruck. The bag did not come with an MTX harness system, and as you can see even the trademark fastex buckles are not even on this bag but instead they come with the normal ALICE clip closure system. On the other side, there is no Spec Ops 'Made in USA' label. There is also no internal sleeve unlike in the Spec Ops Brand. Is this the real Spec Ops Recon Ruck Ultra or it is another type of bag that is wrongly given to me?

Durable, but full of issues.
Unless you are confident with performing serious modifications to this pack yourself, there are better packs out there for much less money.Pros :Durability. No zippers to snag or blow out.Simplicity.Cons:Not even remotely comfortable. If used without frame, serious mods needed to serve decently.Requires courage and skill to mod a brand new item, but worth the effort to do so.These include:1. Adding a layer of plastic, delrin or PVC sheeting into the pack in order to carry your goods and spread weight evenly across your back. Granted, this mod is easy, and sheets can be found at Home Depot; easy to cut with tin snips. Without doing this, the pack carries quite sloppily and will slde and shift while worn.2. Completely removed the sleeve which holds the frame in place. Yes, I know it sounds like heresy, but just try loading this pack without a frame, and you will see for yourself how uncomfortable this design is. The sleeve is robust, adding a band or ridge that digs into your back. This only worsens with additional weight inside. So, I took tin snips and cut off the entire sleeve, which granted a lot of comfort instantly. If your back is made of concrete or you are using enough cold weather outerwear to pad this ridge out, disregard. I can only speak for myself, and I found this feature worthless and simply removed it for comfort’s sake.3. Straps R us. This pack has a lot od spare slack on its straps. I had to figure out a way to manage all the excess, which required melting holes into the strap, and using cable ties to hold the bundles in place. Again, very easy mod to do, but for the pricetag on this pack, one would expect the thing to at least have velcro strap mitigation. Nope, you are on your own here. After performing these mods myself, this pack is quite serviceable and carries 50 lbs of gear nightly, and comfortably. But out of the box? Terrible.Test your surgical skill, and mod this pack. Its worth the effort.

Garbage ruck trying to be a fancy backpack
Is a fancy looking back pack. Accepts and Alice frame but doesn’t secure to the frame well. Whole thing feels cheaply made. Somehow holds less than GI Medium Alice. Straps come weirdly routed across top flaps you have to remove some stitching to route them properly. There are better assault packs for less money.
