Photography Light Wand Video Lighting 2500mAh Viltrox
When I first got this, I had some mixed feelings about it (full disclosure, I got to review this for free; however, I approach these things as if I paid full cost or would I buy another one at that cost), mostly m issue with is it that when it came out it was a little pricey for what it is. In the interceding time Viltrox gave it a price drop which absolutely turns my opinion around and puts me firmly into the "yeah this thing is awesome" camp.First of all, the price now is competitive against even the lower end of the offerings (no, not the cheap ones no one wants after they get them, I mean the ones you might actually like enough to get more than one to do photo effects with colored lighting). Second, it is so much better regarding how sturdy it feels and how well it is put together. An example of that is that the barndoors on this unit do not feel flimsy, additionally, instead of just having a mount that has a round or oval piece which presses on and has a kind of "meh" fit, this one has a mount that has an octagonal end which presses on over the end of the light and has a more positive fit thus avoiding the mount just falling off because it is not on well enough (on another light wand the mount is such that I'm never really sure that it is solidly in place). The one thing I am not crazy about as opposed to some other light wands is that this does not simply charge off a USB (which would make things so much better in terms of if you ran out of juice and either forgot your charging cable or were not near power, you could just use a power pack and keep on as you were after a short time). It charges off a special 24v 1A cable, not a problem if I am somewhere with power, but if I were to go somewhere that did not have it and needed this for more than 2 hours then I would be without my lighting. What would be ideal in my mind is if they had an option to somehow charge using USB powerpacks or even the V mount batteries that are becoming popular, but just make your plans accordingly now that you know. All that aside about how I might like a different charging system, I really like this light wand and think it is well designed and am happy with it. In fact, once Viltrox reduced the price it made this an extremely attractive option for lighting since it is dimmable, has temperature controls from warm to cool lighting, can be set to various colors, and has the ability to use an app to remote control the settings (as opposed to having to use a dedicated remote which could get lost or damaged) as well as having a 1/4" mount so you can basically set it up to your heart's desire. That means it would work pretty with several of these producing most or all of the lighting without costing a small fortune.I recommend this light as I think that it is one that has long term potential for a photographer because it seems sturdy and is versatile in how it can be used and in its settings. It makes me look forward to seeing what else Viltrox offers in the future.

Another banger from Viltrox
Viltrox are making a splash in the lighting game with their RGB LED offerings And this light wand is simply put amazing.Being able to add color or light in tight spaces is amazing. I have used this for photography and video and currently this is set up as my hair light. I hope Viltrox make a bigger version of this as its one of my favorite to use.Positives:Simple ControlsFlipping it over for an either white or color is actually more useful than I thought it would be.Light WeightDecent Battery LifeCons:The barn doors are a pan to take off and put onI wish it had an actual remote, controls being in an app sometimes slow down a shoot idea.

Pros:* Different colors for all your photo/video needs* Lets you adjust the colors and brightness with an app* 26 Different lighting modes like a fire truck and candlelight* Runs 2 hours on one charge* Comes with mini tripod and accessoriesCons:*Takes time to connect and set up with the app* Mounting options are not super sturdyOverall, this light is fun for creating different lighting effects and scenes or using it as a key or fill light. I like the colored LEDs and unique modes you can control with the app—excellent value for the money.

Unique Fun and Versatile Light
This is the first of its kind I have seen in my 40 years of Photography. I find it to be very useful for run-and-gun video work.It is relatively small, but at the same time has a large tube light to provide an even light source. The 2 barn doors can easily be swapped to work with either side of the light. One side is normal color temperature adjustable and the other is a full spectrum color light. Not only can you adjust the color itself but also how intense it is.It has a solid feel to it and is easy to use. The instructions to swap the bark doors from one side to the other felt vague, but it is all one unit, the 2 doors and two rings at the top and bottom that just slide up and can come off entirely or just lift a little and then rotate. No remote included, but it is available, however, you can also control it from an app on the phone.Very happy to have found this, and looking forward to finding unique ways to put it to use.

A First Class Light Wand
The Viltrox wand light comes in a padded case with a power supply and a little tripod. The barndoors are easy to remove and adjust. The light is mostly plastic but feels solid and well designed. It is easy to navigate the various modes with the controls.According to my measurements the light set at 6400° K on 100% radiates about 8000 LUX at a meter. That is a good amount of light for most applications. As can be seen in my photo it throws a fairly soft light without adding diffusion. Its strength though is the ability to call up any color and some EFX. This give the light versatility to add creative elements in a scene. Will be very helpful adding an element of drama to that Vlog. The wand aspect also makes the Viltrox an excellent choice for long exposure light painting.
