Just great
The number of reviews saying 'Some of the humour's a bit off' only made me want to see this more. We watched the whole series in one sitting and are now pining for season two and even the US version. The cast are all really excellent, it's beautifully shot, there's no laughter track, it's all played so straight and without any 'fireworks', just right up my strasse. There are several one or two quirks about the series that I really like: 01. We never get to see what the real dog looks like, only the representation of him as a man in a dog suit. 02. There is virtually no backstory to the human characters. We don't know where they work, what they do, or virtually anything about them aside from a few bits about the girl's ex. This only made it more intriguing.

I love it because it s a really perfect relationship between Wilfred and Adam. They are so grazy to each other!
It s so nice to see how a man "lives" in a dog Outfit doing all his mind games. Adam has no Chance for a normal life with his Girl friend because Wilfred is the real "man" at home! It s a grazy Story but really lovely!!

Sorry, this wasn't for me!!!!
The 'Wilfred' of the title, is the dog belonging to Jenna, the latest girlfriend of Ryan. The series starts with Ryan's first visit to Jenna's flat, and where he first encounters Wilfred. Now it's here that I had my first problem with the series. Had I not read the Amazon description of the series before, I would have found it very hard to understand the premise that Wilfred is NOT a man dressed as a dog who smokes drugs and talks - Wilfred is just a dog, but not to Ryan. He just sees the "man-in-a-costume"On going to the Internet and searching about the series, I discovered that Ryan is supposedly going through a bout of depression and that is why he is the only one seeing the dog as human - to everyone else, he's just a dog. This is just not made clear in the programme. This is a very dark comedy which, I am sure, falls into the category of 'Cult-TV', but I found it totally surreal and gave up after the first few episodes.

Not the Elijah Wood version...
...That aired on BBC recently, but the original Australian series. The comedy is bawdy but it's quite dark and well-observed humour.Jason Gann as Wilfred the man-dog (in the US and Australian series) is the highlight of the show. The originals are usually best, so I'm tempted to see how the story pans out in the second ( and final) Australian season.

excellent service/product
I was a bit weary about buying one of the more reasonably priced dvds not knowing what to expect. To put it simply I was very impressed, excellent service/product I cannot recommend them enough. No complaints whatsoever.

Very dark, dry humour
I thought the concept for this show was really interesting and unusual, and since I tend to like comedies this should have been a sure fire hit. Ok maybe I wasn't expecting a full belly laugh kind of a show, but I expected it to raise a smile and the odd snigger. How can a man dressed in a dog suit fail to make a situation funny? I'm not sure either but it really didn't work for me. If you like your humour dark and very, very dry this might be the show for you.On the technical side, though nicely shot, I found the poor picture on the dvd version distracting - the colours were strangely muted and the picture was more pixilated than usual.

Rough draft
Usually, I prefer originals to remakes. One example being "Kath and Kim", which I found very amusing in its original form, but it was murdered in the translation to the U.S. market. Another example is "L.A. Takedown", a far superior film by Michael Mann to his later overblown effort of a remake, "Heat".However, I was slightly disappointed by this version of Wilfred. It may just be my personal opinion, but I found it far too rough around the edges. Very much a "work in progress" compared to the "equivalent" first series with Elijah Wood.Others may find it as funny, or better than the version developed for the U.S., but my preference is for the later one which I find far more polished, certainly more erudite, and a little more coherent.

Watch before you see the US remake (then also watch that)
A fantastic and original comedy. The American remake is surprisingly good, especially for an American remake, but this original Australian version is darker, more subtle, more intelligent and funnier.
